Gunn Teases Superman Revamp at Comic-Con
The New Dawn of Superman: James Gunn at the Helm
Navigating the scenic frenzy that is Comic-Con, the buzz is palpable. The reason? The promise of a new era under the patronage of James Gunn in the glistening DC Universe and particularly, his steel-clad knight in shining armor, Superman.
At the helm, Gunn has not disappointed, playing his part almost as smartly as a comic book vigilante. He unveiled the Creature Commandos trailer, arguably elbowing aside other superheroes to steal the limelight. As if that wasn’t enough, he cast the new DC Studios film logo out into the open to awed onlookers.
Details filtered around the venue courtesy of Gunn’s video appearance at the SDCC. Amongst the sensory overload, one nugget of information was relayed: work on the Superman trailer is on full throttle and is set for a ‘soonish’ reveal. But with timelines as specific as my favorite superhero’s cape (chosen for fashion more than practicality, of course), whether we’ll be seeing the trailer in weeks or months, no one’s really certain.
Fellow Fanatics Weigh In
Debates ignited about the first glimpses of David Corenswet on set and photos leaked from Cleveland. The DC insiders speaking off record didn’t seem too concerned about the aesthetics though – the Superman suit and the other costumes aren’t keeping them up at night.
The consensus? Gunn needs to ace the story. Commendable then that those in the know have heard nothing but positive reviews about the script – ‘really good’ and ‘solid’ were the prevailing adjectives. First footage gossip suggested it’s a feast for the eyes – no need to panic just yet.
Zack Snyder’s Creed
As for Zack Snyder, apparently he’s got his crew tinkering in Gunn’s workshop. No matter your stance on Snyder’s tenure in the DCEU, it’s hard to ignore the stellar visuals. With a resume that includes the first Wonder Woman film, the odds are looking good for Gunn’s Superman venture.
And if the rumor mill is accurate, there’s no bad blood brewing between Snyder and Gunn. The word around the comic book water cooler is that Snyder has his eyes set on adapting Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns, which could be in the pipeline.
As we look to the horizon, we have a clear date. James Gunn’s Superman makes his flight on July 11, 2025. Until then, we can but speculate, anticipate, and maybe sniff out a few more rumors in the corners of Comic-Con.
