The CW Unveils Premiere Date for ‘The Librarians: The Next Chapter’

Hold onto your library cards, folks! The CW has just announced the premiere date for The Librarians: The Next Chapter, the highly anticipated sequel to the TNT series The Librarians. Mark your calendars for Thursday, October 24th at 9 p.m. ET, because that’s when the magic (and probably some overdue book fines) will begin.

In a move that’s sure to make Thursday nights the new Friday, The Librarians: The Next Chapter will follow a fresh episode of Superman & Lois, which itself returns the previous Thursday at 8 p.m. ET. The network had previously hinted at a Thursday night slot for the series, but now it’s official. So, if you’re planning to binge-watch, you might want to stock up on snacks and maybe a few spell books.

The new series promises to be a magical rollercoaster. The plot centers on a Librarian from the past who time-travels to the present, only to find himself stuck here. When he returns to his castle—now a museum—he accidentally unleashes magic across the continent. Oops! To clean up his mess, he assembles a new team of Librarians. Think of it as The Avengers, but with more card catalogs and fewer capes.

For those who need a refresher, The Librarians originally started on TNT with three made-for-TV movies: Quest for the Spear (2004), Return to King Solomon’s Mines (2006), and Curse of the Judas Chalice (2008). The movies were so well-received that they spawned a television series in 2014, starring Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Harlan Kim, and John Larroquette. Noah Wyle also made appearances, reprising his role from the movies.

Superman & Lois Also Returns in October

But wait, there’s more! The CW also announced that Superman & Lois will return for its fourth and final season starting on Thursday, October 17th. The season will kick off with a 2-hour premiere at 8 p.m. ET and will continue to air on Thursdays at 8 p.m. this fall. This final season is set to be a ten-episode emotional rollercoaster.

“I have watched nine of the 10 episodes and [they are] f–king awesome,” The CW’s President of Entertainment Brad Schwartz revealed in a recent interview. “It is weekly event television. Greg Berlanti and the producers have constructed 10 bangers. They really go for it. I’ve cried twice watching [the first nine episodes], and I haven’t even gotten to the finale yet. It’s Emmy-worthy. And, by the way, you can watch this final season without having watched the previous [seasons] and still be emotionally invested in what is happening. It’s a wonderful, 10-episode, contained arc.”

So, whether you’re a fan of magical mishaps or superhero sagas, The CW has your Thursday nights covered this fall. Just make sure your DVR is set, your popcorn is popped, and your tissues are handy. It’s going to be a wild ride.
