General Questions

1. What is August Tales? August Tales is an online platform for comic book fans to trade and sell collected editions. We also offer comic news aggregation and fan fiction — all in one place. Whether you’re here to trade, sell, or buy, August Tales is built for collectors.

2. Do you sell books? Yes! While August Tales began as a trade-focused platform, members can also list collected editions for sale at any price they choose. We handle credit card processing and sales tax so you can focus on the fun part.

3. What are your fees? Trades cost only $1.99 per book, plus shipping and tax. Sales are 6% + $0.60 per transaction, plus shipping and tax. We keep our costs low so you can grow your collection or move the books you no longer need.

4. How does the book exchange work? Users list collected editions they want to trade, browse others’ listings, and request trades. Once both parties agree, each person handles shipping. August Tales provides the tools and infrastructure to keep it easy and secure.

5. What types of books can I trade or sell? Collected editions and trade paperbacks — hardcovers, softcovers, omnibuses, compendiums, and graphic novels. Single issues and floppies are not currently supported.

6. Can I use August Tales on mobile devices? Yes. August Tales is fully mobile-responsive and works great on phones and tablets using any modern browser.

7. Are there limits to how many items I can list? There is no listing cap for most users. However, we may review accounts that post suspicious or inappropriate content.

8. Is August Tales secure? Yes. We use SSL encryption and secure payment processors. Your information and transactions are protected.

9. Do you offer refunds or cancellations for sales? Since August Tales is a peer-to-peer platform, refunds and cancellations are up to the individual seller. We encourage clear communication and offer support if a dispute arises.

Account and Membership

10. How do I create an account? Click “Sign Up” on our homepage, fill in your details, and follow the prompts.

11. Is there a membership fee? No, signing up is free with our Copper (Standard) plan. For deeper discounts on new trades, subscribe to Unobtainium (Gold) at $40/year. This includes access to steep discounts on new releases and supports the platform.

12. Can I deactivate my account? Yes. Visit Account Settings and select “Deactivate Account.”

13. How can I change my email or mailing address? Log in, go to Account Settings, and make your updates there.

14. Who processes payments? Transactions are billed through our parent platform, Vanguard Fiction Exchange, so that name will appear on your bank or card statements.

Trading Books

15. How do I list a book for trade? Log in, go to My Books, and click Add a Book. You can search our growing database or enter info manually. Add a clear photo, and you’re set.

16. How do I request a trade? Find a book you want and click Request Trade. The owner will receive a notification and can approve or decline.

17. What if my trade is declined? No worries — you can request another trade or send a new offer. Declined trades incur no fees.

18. Are trades one-for-one? Yes. Every trade is one item for one item, regardless of value. Simple and fair.

Shipping

19. How is shipping handled? Once a trade or sale is confirmed, the platform calculates your shipping cost based on the book’s verified weight, the destination, and the service you choose. You can print a prepaid label at home or take a QR code to the post office.

20. How do book weights work? When you list a book, the platform pulls weight data from available sources. Because collected editions vary across printings and formats, we ask each member to verify the weight of the book in their possession. Once a book’s weight has been verified through three separate trades, it becomes the trusted reference for future transactions.

21. What shipping services are available? For U.S. members, we support USPS Media Mail, USPS Ground Advantage, and Priority Mail. Exact costs are calculated automatically when you generate a label, so you’ll always see current pricing. Shipping options vary by region for members outside the United States.

22. Can I ship to other countries? Currently, trading and shipping are available within your own region only. U.S. members trade with other U.S. members, U.K. members with other U.K. members, and so on. August Tales serves members in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and across the European Union. Cross-region international shipping is not available at this time.

23. How should I package my books? Wrap your book in a plastic bag or sleeve to protect against moisture. Use a snug-fitting box or rigid mailer — avoid oversized boxes that let the book shift during transit. Add padding if needed, especially for hardcovers or omnibuses with dust jackets. Seal the package securely.

24. What if a book is lost in transit? If tracking confirms loss, we encourage buyers and sellers to communicate. Insurance may apply depending on the shipping service used. Our support team can assist with resolution.

Selling

25. Can I sell books instead of trading? Yes. You can list collected editions for sale at your price. We charge a flat 6% + $0.60 per transaction, plus tax and shipping. We process credit cards, collect tax, and deposit your earnings.

26. Can I trade and sell at the same time? Yes — and that’s part of what makes August Tales great. You can list some books for trade and others for sale, all from your dashboard.

27. What kind of news does August Tales cover? We aggregate links from top comic book websites. Our Fandom News page features headlines and summaries that link to original articles — helping you stay current without endless scrolling.

28. What is Tales Untamed? Tales Untamed is our fan fiction page where users can share original stories inspired by comics, graphic novels, and manga. Keep content suitable for teens and up. This space is for creative fun and connection.
