Iwan Rheon Responds to Game of Thrones Fan…

Peacock’s New Nest: “Those About to Die”

The Peacock network, expanding its roster of original content, recently launched a new series titled “Those About to Die.” The show is causing a stir and drawing comparisons to a certain renowned HBO series. If you guessed “Game of Thrones,” you’re spot on! Interestingly, a familiar face appears in both series – actor Iwan Rheon.

Catching Up with the Cast

Our own Kevin Polowy caught up with Rheon and his co-star Sara Martins for a chat. Naturally, the “Game of Thrones” comparison came up, especially since Roland Emmerich himself noted its influence on “Those About to Die.” Rheon humorously pointed out that the gladiator series has fewer dragons and is more rooted in Ancient Rome.

Similarities and Differences

As Rheon humorously noted, “There’s less dragons in our show… but obviously there’s a dynastic struggle at the very heart of our story.” He added that “rich families vying for power, and there’s all that kind of stuff, it’s based on history, so it’s a very different thing.”

Martins acknowledged the goal was to match the visual grandeur of “Game of Thrones.” With complex characters and ambitious plotting, the show aims for spectacle.

Life After Ramsay Bolton

Rheon, known for his role as Ramsay Bolton, one of TV’s greatest villains, reflected on the audience’s reaction. While he has faced some jocular jabs, he hasn’t experienced serious backlash. He mused, “Anyone genuinely conflating me with my character is unlikely to darken my doorstep.” Who indeed would want to chat with Ramsay Bolton?

The Show’s Ensemble and Streaming Details

“Those About to Die,” directed by Roland Emmerich and Marco Kreuzpaintner, is written by Robert Rodat and based on the book by Daniel P. Mannix. The ensemble cast includes Dimitri Leonidas, Jojo Macari, Gabriella Pession, Moe Hashim, Tom Hughes, Daniel Stisen, and Sir Anthony Hopkins.
