X-Men: A Glimpse into Notorious Film Moments
No super team from Marvel’s colossal roster was as lauded or as lucrative as the X-Men. This motley group of super-gifted “mutants,” dubbed freaks and feared by society, tried to use their abilities for humanity’s benefit. Starting in the late ’70s, Marvel had another moniker: the House of X-Men, spawning series like X-Force, X-Factor, Excalibur, Generation X, and X-Treme X-Men.
A Tale of Rights and Wrongs
In the ’90s, Marvel began selling movie rights of their heroes, and 20th Century Fox swiftly scooped up the X-Men. Disney, later playing corporate Pac-man, swallowed Fox, reclaiming the X-Men’s movie rights. Before the acquisition, Fox churned out 13 films, including an X-Men trilogy, a Wolverine trilogy, and a prequel trilogy. These films provided comic fans with inspiration and occasional frustration, like Wolverine’s futile attempt to halt Magneto in X-Men #25.
The One with Mutants and Mishaps
But as the phoenix rises from the ashes, so too does the X-Men franchise. It’s intriguing to revisit some less glorified moments. Not all movies are created equal, and the X-Men franchise had its fair share of face-palm moments. Over two action-packed decades, the Fox X-Men empire delivered 13 films, but they also gave us moments we’d rather forget.
Mutants, We’ve Had a Few
Every new Marvel movie graces the silver screen with fanfare. But not all are cinematic gold. We’re in this mutant rollercoaster together, through the highs, the lows, and the moments we try to bleach from our brains. This critique comes from a place of love. Without late-night cable flicks, life would be dull. The X-Men franchise isn’t beyond reproach, but that’s why we love them.
