Feige Speculates on R-rating for Delayed Blade Film
The world of Marvel movies sees light again after some gloomy hitches, thanks to Marvel’s chief, Kevin Feige. The awaited Blade flick with Mahershala Ali has been in development purgatory. But here’s the scoop.
Feige Dishes on Delays and Potential R-rating
“We’ve been sweating bullets over this film,” admits Feige during his chat with BlackTree TV. The original Blade movies were proud carriers of the R-rating. Feige noted, “Keeping in line with Blade’s character, like Deadpool, I’d say an R-rating is mandatory.”
This comes as Feige promotes Deadpool & Wolverine, MCU’s first R-rated venture. The question: could this pave the way for an R-rated Blade flick?
Mahershala Ali’s Busy Schedule
As for the delays, rumors suggest Mahershala Ali, the new Blade, is also in Jurassic World with Scarlett Johansson. This dino-adventure is set to hit screens before Blade.
The delays have been chaotic, with Ali’s legal team calling it “the craziest thing in my professional experience.” Blade has seen directorial changes, saying goodbye to Yann Demange and shuffling through several writers. Demange once promised an R-rated Blade, saying, “They gave me the R, which is so important.”
Demange was eager to showcase Ali’s rough side in Blade. Whether that happens, only time will tell.
A Feminine Turn for Blade
Earlier tales suggested Ali pitched a female-led Blade narrative to Feige in 2019. Surprisingly, the bloodthirsty Blade was set to be the fourth lead in a more life-lesson-focused script.
Looking Ahead
As we await the November 7, 2025, release of Blade, we remain optimistic for updates during the next Comic-Con. Hope is a good thing, especially in the superhero galaxy.
