This September, Sabrina’s realm welcomes a chilling new antagonist. The Wicked Trinity—Amber, Jade, and Sapphire—introduce Mother Striga, a formidable force. Amber steps up, conjuring this ancient terror within the comic panels of the soon-to-be fan-favorite one-shot, “Sabrina Annual Spectacular.”
Penned by the wily Ian Flynn, of Sonic the Hedgehog fame, and brought to life by the dynamic duo Steven and Lily Butler, who have also worked on Spider-Man, this infernal addition is set to elevate Sabrina’s typical teenage turmoil to a new level of tantalizing terror.
Ian Flynn, possibly smoking as he penned this tormented tale, said, “The wild and magical world of Ms. Spellman is a rambunctious delight to the storytelling senses. Amber makes a ripping rival for Sabrina, but usually, they’re on similar footing. With the introduction of Mother Striga, the playing field makes a seismic shift. Our bewitching heroine may need more than sheer magical moxie to overcome this sweeping tidal wave of evil.”
When There’s No Room in Witch Hell, Striga Walks the Earth
The comic series reveals the impressive lineage of Mother Striga. This witch among witches is the progenitor of all the spellbinding sirens who follow in her spectral footsteps. She’s a malefic matriarch, a powerful curse slinger, and she’s got Sabrina firmly in her paranormal crosshairs.
Bolt your doors, witches, because Amber’s pyrotechnic petulance blows Mother Striga into our world. Why would a witch do such a wretched thing? Well, it’s simple: she wants to vanquish Sabrina once and for all. The splashback from Amber’s colossal conjuring spills over into several comics, continuing through the “Archie Halloween Spectacular” in October and wrapping up in the “Josie and the Pussycats Annual Spectacular” in November.

Steven Butler walked us through the creative process, saying, “In Sabrina’s world, Mother Striga is the origin of all witches, the ubiquitous evil presence. Picture Darkseid or Thanos, swapping galaxies for cauldrons. We envisaged her as a kind of immortal cross between regal charm and mummified morbidity, complete with her own shape-shifting, sentient ’80s hair-mare.”
The entrance of Amber and the gang injected a sense of impending doom into the narratives about Sabrina. The popularity of these characters skyrocketed, making Amber Nightstone’s first appearance in 2022 an instant sell-out and going straight into a second printing. Her subsequent commandeering of the Wicked Trinity only helped to intensify the dark undertone.
Arriving in comic shops nationwide on September 4, get ready for the “Sabrina Annual Spectacular” – a showcase of ominous draughtsmanship from Steven and Lily Butler, color-infusions from Glenn Whitmore, finely inked letters by Jack Morelli, and a menace-suffused cover from Vincent Lovallo and Rosario “Tito” Peña.
As a sneak peek into this magical maelstrom: Eyegore Estates becomes the backdrop to an epic magical showdown as Amber Nightstone returns to Sabrina’s world. Amber’s unleashed wickedness even outshadows her own expectations, making this hellish brew spicy even for our enchantress.
