Jonathan Majors on Downey’s MCU Comeback
Jonathan Majors recently expressed his heartbreak over Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Downey, known for his iconic role as Iron Man, is set to rejoin the MCU as Doctor Doom. This move has left Majors, who was initially slated to return as Kang in the fifth Avengers movie, feeling sidelined.
Avengers: Doomsday Replaces Kang Dynasty
Marvel announced that the fifth Avengers film would be retitled Avengers: Doomsday, officially excluding Majors’ Kang from the sequel. Originally announced as Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, the film’s shift to focus on Downey’s Doctor Doom has been a tough pill for Majors to swallow. Speaking to TMZ, Majors shared his emotional reaction.
“Yeah, heartbroken. Of course. Come on, yeah, of course. I love him. I love Kang. Doctor Doom is wicked, though,” Majors said, reflecting on the new direction.
Majors Still Open to Playing Kang
Despite the disappointment, Majors remains open to returning as Kang. He addressed the comparison between his misdemeanor conviction and the more serious charges faced by actors like Downey and Ezra Miller, who have continued to work in major roles. Majors expressed his frustration at not being afforded the same treatment.
“I think it’s fair that Mr. Downey and Mr. Miller have been greeted with patience, curiosity, and love,” Majors lamented. “I don’t really get that. I don’t know why I can’t be treated the same.”
Future Hopes and Love for Kang
Even though Marvel Studios is unlikely to call back Majors, he still cherishes his role as Kang. When asked about his interest in reprising the character, Majors was enthusiastic.
“Kang? Hell yeah! Hell yeah, hell yeah,” Majors said about a potential return. “I love him. Love Kang. Love He Who Remains. If that’s what the fans want, if that’s what Marvel wants, let’s roll. Hell yeah.”
Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters on May 1, 2026.
