This Needs to be Fixed in the Upcoming Dexter Sequel…

Dexter: Resurrection Anticipated to Deliver Crucial Dexter-Batista Showdown

The dynamics of the Dexter universe are buzzing again, with the upcoming sequel series, Dexter: Resurrection, poised to tackle unresolved plotlines. Angel Batista, a prominent character in Dexter’s twisted tale, is at the center of anticipation as fans eagerly await a showdown between him and Dexter Morgan.

Sequel Series Builds Anticipation

Following the dramatic conclusion of Dexter: New Blood, speculation is rife about what the sequel series has in store. Dexter: Resurrection, set to start filming in January 2025, has some big shoes to fill. It follows right after the prequel series Dexter: Original Sin, leaving showrunner Clyde Phillips no room to miss a beat in continuing Dexter’s saga. Plus, with Dexter supposedly dead, there’s an extra layer of intrigue.

Comic-Con San Diego 2024 was the stage for the unexpected announcement of Dexter: Resurrection. Michael C. Hall took the spotlight, revealing he’ll voice Patrick Gibson’s young Dexter in Original Sin. These announcements have amped up the hype around the spin-offs, but the real challenge will be meeting the sky-high expectations.

A Missed Opportunity This Big Should Be a Felony

Frankly, Dexter: New Blood didn’t do justice to David Zayas’ return as Angel Batista. Reviews suggest his comeback was underutilized, a sentiment echoed by many fans. Batista’s suspicions about Dexter’s true identity as the Bay Harbor Butcher simmered, but the subplot was left hanging. A direct clash between Dexter and Batista was missing in New Blood, leaving some fans disgruntled and labeling the finale as “arguably disappointing.”

Consequently, Dexter: Resurrection has serious responsibilities. It has the golden chance to bring Batista back and spin the plot in an interesting way. Batista, with his vendetta to avenge LaGuerta’s murder, has plenty of reasons to return. Let’s hope Resurrection doesn’t let this grand opportunity slip by.

Waiting for the Inevitable

Walking down miss-the-opportunity-lane is not an option for Dexter: Resurrection if it wants to retain the franchise’s fans. What’s crucial now is an epic collision between the two mainstays of the Dexter universe. Getting Batista on the hunt for Dexter has the potential to create some nail-biting moments of sheer suspense and tension, especially considering Dexter’s long history of deception and evildoings, including LaGuerta’s unfortunate demise. If one thing’s for sure, it’s that Zayas, fresh off his star turn in The Bear season 3, really ought to feature in Dexter: Resurrection.

“Dexter,” Showtime’s gripping masterpiece, follows the life of Dexter Morgan, Miami Metro Police Department’s proficient blood spatter analyst. Struggling to balance his dark inclinations and social standing, Dexter, created by Jeff Lindsay and artfully portrayed by Michael C. Hall, finds solace in hunting down criminals who slithered past justice. However, every solution opens up room for more problems, putting Dexter in a constant tightrope walk. Dexter: New Blood, a mini-sequel, took the baton from the eight-season run of the original series, reinstating Dexter’s tale ten years following its events. It will be interesting to see if Dexter: Resurrection can fill the shoes of its predecessors and live up to the hype.
