Captain Marvel Calls Out Avengers’ Recent Failure
The latest issue of Avengers #17, hitting shelves on August 7, packs a punch with Captain Marvel’s no-holds-barred critique of the team’s recent shortcomings.
Captain Marvel Takes a Stand
In Avengers #17, the heroes are stationed high above Earth in their sentient space station, Impossible City. They’re discussing their narrow escape from a vampire war, a victory credited to Doctor Doom, the new Sorcerer Supreme. T’Challa considers them victors, but Captain Marvel sharply counters, reminding everyone that the Avengers failed to prevent the world from being overrun initially.
Carol Danvers, known as Captain Marvel, was elected chairperson of the Avengers after their battle against the Multiversal Masters of Evil and Mephisto. Now, with the team scattered across realities, it’s up to Captain Marvel, Black Panther, Thor, Vision, Scarlet Witch, Captain America, and Iron Man to save the day.
A Series of Unending Threats
At the start of this Avengers series, the team faced off against Myrddin and his superpowered knights, who rose against Kang the Conqueror. This kicked off a brutal war over the mysterious Missing Moment. Despite fending off Myrddin, the Avengers have faced numerous other threats, each a foretold Tribulation Event.
The recent Blood Hunt saw a near-global vampire takeover, led by Blade, who was possessed by the first vampire, Varnae. Using Darkforce-wielding heroes and villains, Varnae created an era of endless night.
