“Sean Gunn Discusses DC and Marvel Similarities”
Superhero Sibling Dynamics: The Gunn Brothers Navigate DC and Marvel
DC and Marvel, the comic-book titans, have jockeyed for the limelight both in print and on the silver screen. In spite of their rivalry, both entities have often pounced on the talent of the same artists. High on that roster are James and Sean Gunn, a dynamic duo who’ve gotten cozy with these powerhouse franchises.
During a lively chat, Sean Gunn cast light on the contrast between the two superhero goliaths while shedding insight into his personal adventures with both.
Apples and Oranges with a Side of Gunn
Sean Gunn dares to draw parallels between Marvel and DC that toe the line of the apples versus oranges argument. Despite the differences, he’s found echoes of likeness, all thanks to his brother’s hand in both cake mix bowls.
While spilling the beans to The Wrap, Sean Gunn spilled light on the creative variances at play between Marvel and DC. “I arrived at Marvel when the gears were well-oiled and humming nicely,” offered this seasoned actor of five decades. He continued, “With DC, I’ve tasted Suicide Squad, now getting a facelift under my brother’s watch. So, in truth, it’s an apples to oranges comparison.”
Brotherly Love Crossing Battle Lines
After his analogy-loaded rundown, Gunn also touched on the shared DNA between Marvel and DC, largely due to his brother’s artistic genius. “At the core, working with my brother is distinctly comforting,” Sean Gunn observed. He further posited, “The fact that I was collaborating with James at Marvel then at DC — there’s a familiarity in the process.”
On the cinematic stage, Gunn stamped his mark as Kraglin in his brother’s Guardians of The Galaxy trilogy. Soon after James Gunn’s promotion to DC’s co-CEO, Sean also jumped the Marvel ship. The actor grabbed at the role of Weasel in 2021’s The Suicide Squad and is slated to reprise it in the forthcoming Creature Commandos series.
His melodious tones will also bring to life the character of G.I. Robot in the same series. In addition, the revamped DCU has Sean Gunn pinned for the role of Maxwell Lord. Only time will spill the tea on Lord’s first appearance.
