Deadpool & Wolverine Concept Art Hits Marvel Comics
By August Tales
Bringing Home the Artwork
Marvel Comics is calling all Deadpool & Wolverine fans this holiday season. They’re offering select bits of concept art from these beloved characters, right on the covers of your favorite comic titles. There are four comics listed for this special treatment. Each one will parade variant covers featuring artwork from Marvel Studios’ bigwigs; Ryan Meinerding, Andy Park, Mayes C. Rubeo, and Jonay Bacallado.
The Release Schedule
The creative nib of these individuals kicks into action on December 4. Wolverine #4 and X-Men #8 hit the ground running, showing off variant covers. One is Wolverine illustrated by Meinerding. The other stars Cassandra Nova, depicted by the duo – Rubeo & Bacallado.
Fast forward a couple of weeks to December 18, you’ve got Deadpool #9. This time, the Merc With a Mouth gets his chance to shine, thanks to Andy Park. That’s not all. Park’s Wolverine also makes an appearance on the cover of Deadpool/Wolverine #1 that releases on the inaugural day of the new year.
A Complementary Piece of the Marvel Universe Expanded
If you’re thirsty for more cinematic capture, consider “The Art of the Movie” hardcover book. Sporting additional artwork from Deadpool & Wolverine, it comes out a bit sooner on October 29.
Deadpool & Wolverine hit the theatres last July 26. Shawn Levy directed the movie starring a charismatic duo, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, that won over the critics. The film marks Reynolds’ third outing as the sassy, trash-talking Deadpool, racing against time to save his imperilled universe.
Where To Next For Deadpool?
Alongside, the film introduced Emma Corrin as Cassandra Nova, the evil twin of X-Men founder Charles Xavier. This marks the official entrance of the mutant league to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Quite predictably, the waters are churned with speculation about Deadpool’s future whereabouts in MCU.
Ryan Reynolds has confirmed his willingness to wear the red spandex suit anytime. However, cautioning fans, he said that the most recent movie isn’t a stepping stone. “This movie was made as a complete experience,” opined Reynolds. “It wasn’t meant to be a commercial for another movie. It wasn’t meant to be any of that stuff. And, I think I get a great deal of joy making a movie like that.”
Stick around for December 4, when Wolverine #4 and X-Men #8 go on sale. Deadpool #9 and Deadpool/Wolverine #1 follow close behind, up for grabs on December 18 and January 1 respectively.
