Widening its Wings
The movie initially had a limited run on September 21 and 25. However, the inundation of positive reactions prompted the powers-that-be over at the official DC and Superman social media accounts to announce a wider release. Tickets should make their appearance on Fandango any day now.
The Heart of the Story
This documentary shines a spotlight on Christopher Reeve’s breathtaking journey. It captures his transformation from an obscure actor to an indelible star in the cinematic firmament. His triumphant portrayal of Clark Kent/Superman set the standard for the wave of superhero flicks enthralling audiences across the world today.
Reeve inhabited the Man of Steel’s suit across four films. He also undertook diverse roles that exhibited his far-reaching acting prowess and versatility. Unfortunately, he sustained severe injuries in a near-fatal equestrian accident in 1995. This tragedy rendered him quadriplegic.
Beyond the Cape
Reeve’s grit didn’t dim, however, with his physical incapacitation. And so, he ventured into advocacy work, passionately campaigning for spinal cord injury research, disability rights, and care. Ever the entertainer, he continued contributing to cinema, both on-screen and off. He also dedicated himself to his family, emphasizing his unwavering resilience and spirit.
Behind the Scenes
Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui, the preeminent directors behind “McQueen”, spearheaded this project. The film weaves in previously unseen intimate home movies and a wealth of archival material from Reeve’s personal life. It also consists of the first prolonged interviews with Reeve’s three children and firsthand accounts from Reeve’s Hollywood peers who cherished him as a colleague and a friend.
Production Lineup
Passion Pictures, known for “Searching For Sugar Man” and “The Territory,” and Misfits Entertainment, the brains behind “McQueen” and “Rising Phoenix,” handled the production. Alongside them, Words + Pictures, the New York-based studio founded in 2021 by Connor Schell, financed and produced the film. The creators and producers of the 30 for 30 series, the Emmy Award-winning The Last Dance, and the Oscar-winning O.J.: Made in America, steer Words+Pictures. DC Studios, HBO Documentary Films, CNN Films, and Words+Pictures present the film.
