Despite initial flak from fans, Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power became a hit. Renewed swiftly for a second season, it was enjoyed by both critics and fans when it aired on August 29, 2024.

Eight episodes later, the intriguing season wrapped up on October 3, 2024. The finale episode, appropriately named “Shadow and Flame,” teased a potential follow-up season.

Digging Online for Reactions

Before an official Season 3 renewal (although hints suggest so), we scoured the digital world for first and latest reactions to the Season 2 finale. Surfing through the net, both critics and fans seem more or less content, indicating The Rings of Power served a solid wrap-up to its audience.

Critics Voice their Opinions

Next, we delve into the critics’ thoughts on the finale. According to Rotten Tomatoes, they seem rather pleased with the satisfying conclusion.

“Season 2 finale of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power resolves its main plots with multiple dramatic deaths and battles. Sadly, it continues the season’s persisting issues.” observes Samantha Nelson from IGN.

Contrastingly, Arezou Amin from Collider finds the finale a brilliant wrap-up that “sets the stage for the rest of the epic story.”

M.N. Miller from Fandomwire appreciates the performances of Morfydd Clark, Charlie Vickers, and Robert Aramayo. “The finale satisfies fans and leaves them craving more,” says Miller.

What are the Fans Saying?

Fans always spark mixed reviews, however, most reactions swing positively. Although it’s not the best season finale of all time, fans want more.

User HayesOfBase proposed, “Next season, drop every episode on Saturdays, when most people are off from work.” Meanwhile, a tweet from d0dgecity exclaimed, “This finale was SO GOOD. Please tell House of the Dragon how to do finales.”

Fans were vocal about their enjoyment, with Scott Lockie opining “Season two of Rings of Power is better than season two of House of the Dragon,” and Daniel Clinton remarking, “Enjoyed the second season! Daughters and I had fun from start to finish.”

The Naysayers Chime In

Of course, not all share the same enthusiasm, as evident from the few dissenting opinions. Smooth butter isn’t to everyone’s liking, after all.

“There was so much wrong with this ep it’s not even funny,” griped Raconteur Contra on Twitter. Meanwhile, @scrotejones tweeted, “this season has been as completely badly written as Season 1. Someone needs to stop this abomination.”

Despite the naysayers, The Rings of Power has indeed stirred up a sensation. But, the real question is, what do you think of the Season 2 finale? Chime in with your thoughts below!
