Dark Horse Comics and Second Sight Publishing are set to terrify fans in 2025. They’re launching the latest entry in their Shook! anthology. Titled Shook! Songs of the Dark Sirens, this collection promises to be chilling. Featuring eight stories, the anthology delves into horror through the lens of women creators. Bradley Golden, CEO and Founder of Second Sight, expresses his gratitude: "I’m very grateful to be working with these talented women." The collaboration with Dark Horse Comics shines a spotlight on diverse voices, ensuring these tales of horror and loss reach a broader audience. The anthology’s creative lineup includes renowned names like Alitha Martinez and Shakealia "Shake MacAudacious" Finley. Tananarive Due, Micheline Hess, Raeghan Buchanan, and Colleen Douglas complete the star-studded roster. Kimbrea Whaley provides the striking cover art, perfect for this spine-tingling collection, releasing just in time for Halloween.

Creators Reflect on the Impact

Project lead Marcus Roberts is enthusiastic, stating, "Vol 2 is going to become an instant classic." Colleen Douglas, an anthology author, shares her thoughts: "Horror told from the perspective of women, particularly Black women, holds significant importance." She emphasizes its power to engage with social issues and provide cultural representation. This anthology fosters growth and inclusivity within the genre.

Micheline Hess shares her excitement: "I was thrilled to have a story in Shook vol 2." Her contribution, God’s Blood We Deliver, blends her favorite elements: strong Black female characters and electric unicycles. The story explores an older woman’s new career in a Vampire Apocalypse, proving it’s never too late for fresh beginnings.

A Glimpse of Dark Sirens’ World

Dive into the eerie preview of Pegana Rim of the Worlds by Colleen Douglas. Illustrated by Luis Czerniawski, the story features Richard. This antiquarian, passionate about books and eldritch lore, finds unsettling surprises at home. Overrun by peculiar insects, Richard’s current obsession with a museum tome unveils more than he bargained for.
