GOOD OMENS Kickstarter Project Ends Partnership

Controversy Unfolds: Good Omens Graphic Novel Moves On Without Gaiman

Neil Gaiman finds himself at the center of a storm. Allegations of sexual misconduct have led to significant changes for the Good Omens graphic novel. Once a cherished project, the adaptation now moves forward without Gaiman’s financial involvement. The late Terry Pratchett’s estate has stepped in, distancing itself from the acclaimed author amid the allegations.

Pratchett Estate Takes the Helm

The Pratchett Estate recently announced that proceeds from the Kickstarter campaign for the graphic novel will now solely benefit them. While Gaiman co-authored Good Omens with Pratchett, his role in this adaptation ends here. The estate reassured fans the project remains unchanged in management and production aspects.

Fans troubled by the allegations have until February 7, 2025, to cancel their pre-orders. The estate confirmed this decision to accommodate those uncomfortable supporting the novel under current circumstances.

Industry Backlash Extends Beyond Kickstarter

The repercussions of the allegations echo throughout the industry. New York magazine’s exposé highlighted the issue, catalyzing significant consequences. Dark Horse Comics responded by cutting ties with Gaiman, halting the Anansi Boys adaptation and scrapping a hardcover release.

Prime Video also adjusted its plans, resulting in Gaiman’s exit as showrunner for Good Omens’ third season. This upcoming chapter is now reimagined as a 90-minute special, crafted without his input.

Future of Good Omens Remains in Flux

Originally intended for a summer release, the Good Omens graphic novel will finally debut in spring. Despite the turmoil, the Pratchett Estate remains committed to honoring the story and its loyal fanbase. They acknowledge the complexity and sensitivity of the situation while expressing gratitude for the continued support.

The journey with Good Omens, featuring characters Crowley and Aziraphale, will persevere. The estate is dedicated to navigating this new terrain while ensuring fans remain integral to the series’ ongoing legacy.

A Note From August Tales
