Antony Starr’s Single Vulnerability on the Set of…

“Starr’s On-set Weakness: Childhood Crush on Co-star Shue”

“The Boys” is an Amazon Prime exclusive that takes the world of comic book adaptations by storm. Originating from the comic book series of the same name, the series has managed to carve out a space for itself in the crowded superhero genre. It’s known for its deviant plot twists, abundant sprinkles of dark humor and, of course, its villainous characters – particularly one, Homelander, played by Antony Starr.

Contrary to what one might expect, Antony Starr is not the personification of Homelander’s evil persona when cameras cease to roll. Fans have been vocal in their admiration for Starr’s interpretation of the twisted superhero, even attempting a comparison with Heath Ledger’s legendary Joker performance.

Nevertheless, Starr has shown humility despite the accolades, warning his fans against rooting for his character. He’s publicly stated that Homelander is a “villain who should not be supported in any fashion.” One must appreciate the man’s commitment to the moral undertones of his role.

Recently, a chink in Stark’s seemingly invincible armour emerged, courtesy of a chat on the Late Night with Seth Meyers show. Starr let slip about a childhood crush that haunted him during the filming of The Boys. Drumroll, please – it’s Elisabeth Shue.

“Growing up, I was a fervent karate enthusiast and an unwavering fan of The Karate Kid. Little did my dad know when he introduced me to Elisabeth Shue via the big screen that she would become my first on-screen crush,” confessed Starr.

Therefore, imagine the uncontainable excitement that ensued when Starr discovered that Shue was to be cast alongside him in The Boys. However, fans of the series might remember that Shue’s character, Madelyn Stillwell, boasts a rather tumultuous relationship with Homelander – reflective of how those childhood crushes often are heart-shattering in reality.

Nonetheless, Starr maintains that their behind-the-scenes relationship was much less dramatic. He fondly recalled a moment where he offered support to Shue who was feeling insecure about a scene.

Remembering the encounter, he said, “I told her, ‘You’re Elisabeth Shue. You don’t feel insecure to someone like me. I should be learning from you!'” An endearing moment, for sure.

Do you think this revelation makes Starr’s portrayal of Homelander even more intriguing? We’d love to hear your thoughts. Leave your comments below!
