Brolin Rejects Role in DC Universe

Josh Brolin Declines Hal Jordan Role in DCU

By August Tales

Josh Brolin, actor synonymous with Thanos from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, was under consideration to depict Hal Jordan in the DC Universe (DCU). Now, he’s off the table. Specifically, Brolin could have starred in the impending Green Lantern series, Lanterns. The show intends to spotlight Hal as well as John Stewart.

Moreover, sources suggest that Brolin had an official offer to join the Lanterns cast. That was around the end of August. He chose to pass it up nonetheless, leaving fans curious about who would fill the vacated role.

Possible Casting For Hal Jordan

Speculations remain rife regarding who will replace Brolin as Hal Jordan. Rumors indicate a potential chance for actors Matthew McConaughey or Ewan McGregor.

Moreover, the only official DCU casting news for the Green Lantern characters publicly surfaced so far involves Nathan Fillion. Accordingly, Fillion will play Guy Gardner in Superman, set for release in 2025.

More On Lanterns

The DCU series Lanterns received an order for eight episodes in June 2024. Chris Mundy of True Detective’s Night Country is doubling as the showrunner and an executive producer. Importantly, Mundy is collaborating with Tom King and Damon Lindelöf to co-write the series.

Excitingly, the series explores a narrative involving new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan. The duo takes on the roles of intergalactic cops, embarking on a deep, earth-bound mystery involving a murder in America’s heartland.

Lanterns garnered praises from James Gunn and Peter Safran, who deem it a “seminal DC title.” They mentioned, “John Stewart and Hal Jordan are two of DC’s most compelling characters, manifested in an original detective story. This foundation forms a significant part of the unified DCU launching next summer with Superman.”

Although its release date remains unconfirmed, Lanterns anticipates a production start in Atlanta by January 2025. As we await more updates, fans are keep their fingers crossed to find who will fill Brolin’s shoes in the superhero epic.
