Chris Evans Rumored for Captain America Return
By August Tales
It’s been half a decade since moviegoers were graced by Chris Evans in the iconic Captain America role. Rising to fame with this billion-dollar franchise, Evans retired from the character in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. Since then, Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson has successfully embodied Captain America. Undoubtedly, the forthcoming Captain America: Brave New World will further establish him as the new face of this character.
Evans’ Captain America Return
However, the grapevine buzzes with the potential for Evans’ return as Captain America in a new series.
Marquand’s Pitch for the New Series
MCU actor Ross Marquand, notably known for playing Red Skull in the last two Avengers films, recently revealed having pitched a Captain America-themed streaming series to Marvel. This disclosure unfolded during a panel session at the Edmonton Expo in Alberta, Canada. Marquand, a renowned voice artist, suggested a Disney Plus series focused on Evans’ Captain America.
This proposed show would reportedly trace Steve Rogers’ escapades post Avengers: Endgame. According to Marquand’s vision, Rogers, the foundational superhero, embarks on a mission: returning the infinity stones to their rightful places, aiming to stabilize the disrupted MCU timeline.
Scenario for Evans and Marquand
Ross Marquand’s proposal also implies his continued portrayal of Red Skull. With Hugo Weaving’s refusal to return to the German villain’s role he performed in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger, Marquand seized this opportunity. He has also voiced Ultron in the animated series What If…? since it debuted in 2021.
If Marquand’s vision translates to reality, Evans will make an unexpected return to the MCU—though not as the first time as another character. In 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine, Evans reprised his role as the Human Torch, defying fans’ expectations of his Captain America comeback.
However, Marvel’s official stance on Chris Evans’ return remains unstated. Until then, the Captain America series idea remains specter-like, an echo of what once was and what could again be.
