Cena on Why Peacemaker Season 2…

John Cena Discusses Peacemaker Season 2 Delays

Article by August Tales

There are no superheroes when it comes to delays. Even John Cena’s “Peacemaker” is feeling a squeeze. Why you ask? Cena himself gave some answers recently.

The “Suicide Squad” spinoff, “Peacemaker”‘s first season dropped in January 2022. It peaked fans’ interest and left them hungry for more. Well, the second season is well underway, although a no specific launch date has been set. It’s slated for a 2025 debut.

Variety magazine got some inside scoop from Cena. “Peacemaker Season 2: Progress Report” was his response. The hulk-like hero conveyed, “We are in progress. That is the safest answer I can give.” Adding depth, he shared, “Personally, I am very happy, so I hope that translates to everybody who is anticipating it.”

Behind the Scenes: Delaying Peacemaker Season 2

Cena, who plays Peacemaker, shared insights into the pause between the two seasons. The popularity and success of Season 1 was not the reason for delay. In fact, he mentioned, “What you got to understand is, I’m the guy who plays Peacemaker. So when we come out with a show and it’s the No. 1 show on Max, that’s when the plans changed.”

Following the show’s success, a shift in the DCU’s decision-making leadership triggered the pause. Cena elaborated, “But then you have a shift in the structure of who is calling the shots at DC.” Consequently, the creators, James Gunn and Peter Safran, decided to take their time. Cena added, “James and Peter actually both called me and said, ‘You know what, we want to take some time to do this right. But it’s just going to take a little time.'”

This pause was all about delivering another great season. In Cena’s words, “So it was crazy to know we did something people want, they want more of it, let’s do it again.” Echoing the creators’ sentiments, he further assured, “And we have this whole plan, and it’s all going to work together. So if you just trust us, we’ll be okay.”

Peacemaker Season 2: What’s In Store?

While the wait may be long, it is for good reason. The series is being carefully crafted by writer James Gunn. The cast for Season 2 is stellar too. Alongside Cena, expect to see Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee, and Frank Grillo, among others, add to the action and drama. The delay, it seems, is to ensure Peacemaker’s fans get the best superhero experience.
