Tatum’s Gambit Accent: Improvisation in Deadpool & Wolverine

Channing Tatum, known for immersing himself in roles, shines as Gambit in Marvel Studios’ “Deadpool & Wolverine.” This latest hit, blending superpowers with wisecracks, is now delighting fans nationwide. Director Shawn Levy shared that Tatum’s unique dialect and memorable lines were largely improvised.

A Decade-Long Dream Comes True

Levy expressed his excitement, saying, “I am obsessed with Channing as Gambit in this movie. What went into this is a decade of Channing wanting to play this part and a decade of Channing almost playing this part at Fox. I was one of 25 different directors who met with Channing about directing the Fox ‘Gambit’ movie, and yet it never quite happened. So when Gambit surfaced in our movie, it was truly a fan moment for Channing.”

The quirky lines of Gambit were partially scripted but truly came alive with Tatum’s improvisation. He added a delightful mix of Cajun and French, with Levy joking that some lines seemed as cryptic as Minion speak. If only the Minionverse overlapped with Marvel, right?

Tatum’s appreciation for the opportunity was evident in his social media post. He thanked Ryan Reynolds and Levy, sharing his excitement and honor to finally play Gambit. His post included a decade-old comparison photo, highlighting his long-awaited dream role.
