Colin Farrell Dives Deep in HBO’s The Penguin

By August Tales

HBO’s new series, The Penguin, is ready to introduce us to an unseen phase of the Batman universe. This time, it’s primarily about the notorious villain, The Penguin, also known as Oz Cobb. Colin Farrell, the actor embodying Oz Cobb, is determined to shake up Gotham’s crime sphere. The show promises to plunge viewers into the depths of Penguin’s sinister undertakings, unveiling a side of this iconic villain like never before.

At the NYC premiere, Farrell shared his insights about this transformational role.

A Glimpse into Oz’s Character

Farrell expressed that viewers will experience a thrilling journey with Oz in The Penguin. The narrative will take the audience back to Oz’s childhood, revealing some unexpected truth about his past. “Oz is not someone to mess with. He can be mercilessly brutal,” Farrell revealed, hinting at the exploration of his character’s psyche throughout the series.

However, he was quick to clarify that Oz’s past does not justify his malicious actions in the series. “There’s no excuse for his deeds. But observing his past may enlighten us about his transformation into the character he has become,” explained Farrell.

Penguin’s Relation to The Batman Series

When asked about the connection between The Penguin and The Batman series, Farrell revealed that Batman isn’t the main concern for Oz. “Oz is preoccupied with his problems. He’s striving to fill Gotham’s power void. Pondering about Batman is a fleeting thought for him. The immediate present is his priority,” he said.

Much like Oz, Farrell too had other things to focus on while preparing for The Penguin’s role. “For me, the link between The Batman and The Penguin was secondary. I was more engrossed in the new experiences,” he confessed.

A Glimpse into the Relationships

He highlighted his co-stars and on-screen relationships. “Pairing up with Cristin [Milioti] as Sofia Falcone was a great experience. The association with Rhenzy [Feliz] is also intriguing,” said Farrell.

According to Farrell, the heart of the series lies in the bond between Oz and his mother. He accentuated the emotional strength of these scenes, stating, “Those scenes are really heartfelt, showcasing Oz’s vulnerability around his mother amidst all the turmoil.”

The Much-awaited Premiere

After all, The Penguin revolves around different types of carnage. Colin Farrell, returning as the villainous Batman character, is all set to stun his audience with The Penguin. The series is set to premiere on HBO and Max on September 19 at 6 pm PT/9 pm ET.
