Corenswet Discusses Superman Bulk: Top 238lbs

David Corenswet’s Physical Transformation for Superman

August Tales reporting in on the latest about the new Man in Steel. David Corenswet is taking on the iconic role of Superman in James Gunn’s forthcoming film. The actor recently appeared on the Manly Things (sort of) podcast to discuss the physical transformation he has undergone for the part.

“Why So Lean, Superman?” – The Pre-Transformation Struggle

During the podcast chat, Corenswet opened up about his journey of gaining weight and muscle. Describing it as both thrilling and gruelling, he admitted his enviable height of 6’4” was often undermined by his struggle with thinness. This internal battle with his physique fueled a desire to morph, only intensified when the chance to play Superman loomed.

Corenswet shared a raw moment from high school. One that sparked his longstanding insecurity. “I always wanted to be bigger. A girl I went to high school with made a slighting remark about dating a ‘string bean’. I knew she was referring to me,” he confessed. Standing tall at 6’4”, Corenswet had to wait a while for his weight to catch up to his height. “I reached my full height much earlier than I hit 200 lbs. There was a point I was 6’4” and just 165, that’s lean,” he added.

“The Bulk Up” – Corenswet’s Superman Transformation Journey

Finding a workout rhythm was a struggle for Corenswet. Much like those who venture into the gym without a specific plan, his progress was slow. However, the Superman role was a motivation he’d been seeking. “I was content at 190, but I wanted more. Gearing up for Superman gave me the perfect chance to really bulk up,” he explained. He pushed past his initial target of 210, right up to a solid 238 at his peak.

Despite the joy of hitting his heaviest weight, Corenswet conceded that the transformation wasn’t exactly a walk in the park. Recalling a photo from a Superman reading session, he said, “I was at my max, tipping 238. It was crazy.”

“Outgrowing Superman’s Pants” – The Downside of a Thorough Transformation

One unexpected effect of Corenswet’s intensive bulking was outgrowing his clothing. “I put on a sweatshirt and realized I had filled it out. But, suddenly none of my pants fit,” he shared with a laugh. However, there were some less hilarious downsides. The swift weight gain unsettled his body. “It was a challenge adjusting to the extra weight. I was still trying to maintain a high-calorie intake at the peak of my bulk,” he explained. Over time Corenswet naturally shed some weight before filming, making it to set at a comfortable 228.

Brace yourselves, folks. The newly buffed Superman will fly into theaters come July 11, 2025.
