DC Comics Unveils New Batman Series: Dark Patterns

Written by August Tales

Introduction to Batman: Dark Patterns

DC Comics unveils a new 12-part series titled Batman: Dark Patterns, revealing an unexpected twist for our beloved Dark Knight. Collaboratively crafted by Dan Watters and Hayden Sherman, the narrative profiles early career events of Batman. This new crime cycle made its debut on December 11th, giving us a refreshing angle on the World’s Greatest Detective.

A Fresh Spin on the Dark Knight

“I adore Batman’s oddity,” Watters commented. He relishes the character’s paradoxical surrealism: a man cloaked as a vast Gothic bat, hot on the heels of villains amidst a metropolis of dark sorcerers and erratic scientists. Now, that’s a Batman story Watters has been itching to write. And after viewing The Batman, Watters’ desire to delve into the enigmatic shadow-dweller aspect of Batman was rekindled. Hence, Batman: Dark Patterns is here to feed our curiosity with a different view into the earliest years of Gotham’s Dark Detective.

Exploring the Dark Patterns

But what’s Batman: Dark Patterns really about? It presents itself as a quartet of standalone mysteries encapsulating Batman’s early journey within Gotham city. Batman’s healing grace brings much-needed respite to the city streets, especially in the opening narrative “We Are Wounded.” This chapter records a series of gruesome murders that jolt Gotham, leading Batman on a chase to unearth the elusive truth behind the crimes.

Watters continues, “Each case springs from Gotham’s adaptation to its share of horrors over the years. From the Joker poisoning the water supply to the Falcone gang war, fear and superstition infest the city. The Bat, shrouded in an urban myth as a wounded healer, brings the beacon of hope to the hopeless.”

Behind the Dark Patterns

In the two decades of sobering crime and debilitating war, the new comic series Batman: Dark Patterns unravels the many mysteries of Gotham’s streets. This reimagining of the Dark Knight roots Batman in his early detective days, relying heavily on his grit and wits. With Watters at the helm and Sherman enriching the visuals, Batman: Dark Patterns is set out to test Gotham city and its protector like never before.
