Dragon Ball DAIMA Unveils Goku & More

Dabura’s Power Twist in Dragon Ball DAIMA

Dabura’s enigmatic presence in Dragon Ball has always intrigued fans. A character with such potential often left in the shadows. Known as the Supreme King of the Demon Realm, Dabura matched Perfect Cell in power. Yet, he met a swift demise in the Buu Saga, becoming a mere footnote. Episode 17 of Dragon Ball DAIMA flips this narrative on its head. It suggests that Dabura could have been a much greater threat to the Z-Warriors.

A Demon King’s Missed Opportunity

In Dragon Ball Z, Dabura serves primarily as Babidi’s henchman. His fearsome visage and power level gain immediate attention. Dabura outclasses opponents like Yamu, Spopovich, Yakon, and Pui Pui, holding the Z-Warriors at bay. His tactics, such as petrifying Piccolo and Krillin, were crucial. Fights with Gohan pave the way for Vegeta’s corruption and Buu’s release. Despite this, Dabura’s relevance fades as soon as Buu surfaces.

Dabura fails to control Majin Buu, and both end up dead. His transformation into a cookie via Buu’s Candy Beam is particularly ignominious. Dabura, a loyal yet characterless lackey, adds little to the saga’s depth. His supposed rule over the Demon Realm remains unexplored, as does his servitude to Babidi. Even Goku’s hidden Super Saiyan 3 form meant Dabura was never posed as a real threat.

The Power of the Evil Third Eye

Dragon Ball DAIMA sheds light on Dabura’s past more than ever before. Episode 15, "Third Eye," dives into Dabura’s ascension as the Supreme Demon King. The episode also introduces his father, Abura, and the Evil Third Eye. This relic allowed Abura to dominate the Demon Realm, unmatched and unchallenged.

The Evil Third Eye, or Tertian Oculus, is unparalleled in power. Dabura, like his father, desired the relic and throne. He employed a thief to steal it during Abura’s slumber. However, the thief died before delivering the Third Eye, leaving Dabura without. Even so, Dabura easily overcame his father to claim the throne. The Third Eye’s allure possibly led him to be swayed by Babidi’s machinations. Dragon Ball DAIMA reveals how Third Eye power dwarfs Babidi’s enhancements.

What Could Have Been: Dabura Unleashed

Episode 17 of Dragon Ball DAIMA introduces us to Gomah, a former underling of Dabura. Gomah gains the Third Eye and transforms drastically. Dabura, unfused and equipped with this power, could have been a series-defining character. The Third Eye made Gomah a significant threat; hence, Dabura’s potential power goes beyond imagining.

Super Saiyan 3 Goku faces Gomah, but even he struggles against the enhanced villain. Dabura’s hypothetical possession of the Third Eye would have obliterated key Z-Warriors like Ultimate Gohan. Goku and Vegeta would be powerless, much like against Gomah. With no Potara Fusion guidance, they’d fall, leaving Earth defenseless without Gogeta.

While Dragon Ball Z’s original storyline didn’t foresee this narrative… In hindsight, Dabura’s unrealized potential remains a tantalizing prospect. With the Third Eye, Dabura might have changed the course of Dragon Ball history, overshadowing Majin Buu and beyond. Now, DAIMA allows fans to glimpse what could have been, leaving an indelible mark on the mythos of the Dragon Ball universe.
