DuckTales #1 Preview Revives Classic Series…

Licensed to Thrill: DuckTales Returns

This feel-good news comes from August Tales. Dynamite Entertainment has been on a roll. Indeed, they’ve been striking gold with their continued licensing of Disney’s cartoon classics for comic books. Gargoyles and Darkwing Duck are just a couple of examples. Now, they’re adding fresh life to the most famed series from Disney Afternoon’s golden age – DuckTales.

Reviving the Ducks

Penned by Brandon Montclare and artistically brought to life by Tommaso Ronda, DuckTales #1 presents quite the scenario. Huey, Dewey, and Louie, our beloved triplets, are bordering on mental meltdown. Coincidentally, they are stuck on counting duty, stuck in the seemingly ceaseless sea of Uncle Scrooge’s coin collection. Needless to say, they’re unpaid interns at Scrooge’s money pit. The sheer monotony sets their inventive minds into action. Curiously, they conjure up plans to wrangle adventure stories out of Uncle Scrooge’s treasure-filled past.

Cherished Throwback

DuckTales was Disney’s pioneer venture at original animated series. It took cues from the timeless Uncle Scrooge and Donald Duck classics, penned by the legendary Carl Barks. However, it brought its own unique flavor, adding new characters and tweaking existing ones, thus shaping up an alternate universe. It boldly painted Scrooge with softer hues, possibly bowing down to the child-friendly norms of yesteryears. Nevertheless, it was a resounding hit, heralding a rich age of quality TV animation.

Quack Pack’s Resurgence

In 2017, marking the 30th anniversary of the show, DuckTales received a major animated overhaul, garnering wide acclaim. The reboot was progressive, tackling criticisms directed at the original show, particularly its depiction of indigenous cultures. While its modern aesthetics didn’t sit well with everyone, particularly patrons of the original show and the comics, it did put a fresh spin on old times, much desired changes indeed! The forthcoming series from Dynamite Entertainment mirrors the original cartoon closely, piquing anticipation about the narrative alignment. DuckTales #1 is all set to take flight and nest in comic shops globally in November 2024.
