Ed Brubaker’s Film to Star Emilia Clark

“Emilia Clarke Cast in Prime Video’s ‘Criminal’ Adaptation”

Leaping from the mystical realm of Westeros to the shadowy underworld of crime, none other than the effervescent Emilia Clarke, renowned for riding dragons as Daenerys Targaryen on Game of Thrones, is poised to charm audiences on Prime Video in the adaptation of Ed Brubaker’s comic book saga, Criminal. The series’ creator, Ed Brubaker, alongside art maestro Sean Philips, has bestowed upon its readers a literary masterpiece layered with intricacies, a series that has gained acclaim in the comic industry. Rest assured, Charlie Hunnam has been enlisted to rub shoulders with Clarke in the leading roles, with the former starring as the shrewd orchestrator, Leo Patterson.

Our beloved Clarke has been handed the role of Mallory, a character described as “A slick and daring armed robber, as quick with a gun as she is with her wits. Part of a heist crew with Ricky Lawless (Gus Halper), who she’s engaged in a passionate Bonnie-and-Clyde-like affair with. Mallory is a woman on the edge, living on the wrong side of the law and carrying secrets that could upend her crew.”

On the silver screen, Clarke has hopped from fantasy to galactic epics to playing the role of a menacing android. From riding across the Dothraki Sea as Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones, piloting the Millennium Falcon as Qi’ra in Solo: A Star Wars Story, to reprising the role of Sarah Connor in Terminator: Genisys, and now donning her secret spy persona for Marvel’s Secret Invasion, Clarke seems unabated.

Omni-talented duo Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden, who enchanted audiences with their directorial prowess in Captain Marvel, will guide the Criminal adaptation, directing the first quadrant of episodes. The production will bloom under the executive expertise of Brubaker, Harper, Phillips, Sarah Carbiner, and Philipp Barnett. The ensemble cast will also feature Richard Jenkins, John Hawkes, Adria Arjona, Logan Browning, Kadeem Hardison, and Michael Mando, among others.

Brubaker will partner with Jordan Harper, known for his work on The Mentalist and Gotham, to co-showrun the series, a potent combination that hints at a thrilling narrative progression.

The inaugural installment of the comic heritage offers the lure of a hard-boiled crime noir tale packed with double-crosses, murders, and heists. It introduces a world where seeming allies can morph into a volatile danger at the flip of a dime. This story of Leo and his criminal colleagues working to outsmart a cop on the take promises to marinate the television landscape with an intoxicating mix of intrigue, danger, and perilous love affairs. If all goes to plan, audiences will soon be hooked onto this tale of danger lurking in the shadows of lawlessness.
