“Middle-Earth Invades Comic-Con 2024”
San Diego Comic-Con served up an unexpectedly raucous moment that had attendees thinking their GPS had eclipsed reality, and instead, dropped them in Middle-earth. The unexpected surprise came courtesy of the cast and crew of Prime Video’s "The Rings of Power," who hijacked Hall H to drop a juicy teaser for the show’s imminent return.
Yup, you read that right. They didn’t just give us a new season two trailer. Deviating from the human, dwarf, wizard, Harfoot, and elf-heavy narrative, this time, the spotlight was on the unsung heroes of J.R.R. Tolkien’s world—the beasts, the baddies, and everything in between. Courtesy of a behind-the-scenes featurette, fans were treated to a sneak peak at these creatures, and guess what? Prime Video has let this treasure out for everyone to see.
Beasts and Beings of Middle-earth
Now if the line-up for season two doesn’t get your pulse racing quicker than an ent running a marathon, then I suggest you get your Middle-earth fandom checked. Middle-earth regulars, Ents and a sprightly young Shelob are anticipated guests for the grand Second Age reunion.
The creature highlight reel had something for everyone—the fashionably undead Barrow-wights, the lumbering yet loveable Hill-trolls (special shoutout to our new boy, Damrod), and the mysteriously mesmerizing sea-worms. And of course, what’s a Middle-earth gig without the dark lords and orc hordes to spice up the scene?
Fair warning though, you might want to hold onto your…wait, scratch that. Maybe just sit down for the revelations. The show brings back our favorite arboreal characters, the slow-as-a-tortoise-riding-a-snail Ents. Except, they aren’t quite dragging their roots at this point. This is pre-Pippin and Merry era we’re talking about.
On top of that, prepare your arachnophobic hearts as Middle-earth’s most infamous spider, Shelob returns, and this time, she’s young, wild and let’s just say, absolutely terrible!
The Wait for Middle-earth Continues
Leaving us itching for more, the trailer tantalizingly also includes snippets of non-creature-centric combat and trial scenes. And while we’re bouncing off the walls waiting for all of them to unfold on screen, let’s remember patience is a virtue, even in Middle-earth.
Mark your calendars, set an alarm, do whatever it takes to remember. "The Rings of Power" returns to Prime Video for its second season on August 29. Trust me, the wait will be worth it.
