‘Doomsday’ is the Upcoming ‘Avengers’ Film

Avengers 5: Doomsday Unveiled, Downey Jr. Returns

Doomsday Is Coming: Marvel Drops the Mic with New Avengers Installment

In a surprise move worthy of one of their own plot twists, Marvel’s Hall H panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con dropped a bombshell – they’ve rechristened the fifth Avengers film as “Avengers: Doomsday”. Around seven years after the release of Avengers: Endgame, the band of superheroes is getting back together, only this time they’re trading blows with Doctor Doom, one of the biggest Marvel villains. The band is not just getting back together, though; it’s getting a new front man. Swap in your shocked face emoji, folks, as Robert Downey Jr. is returning to the MCU to play Doom.

From Kang Dynasty to Avengers: Doomsday – What a Journey!

Talk about a character arc. Announced two years ago at, you guessed it, San Diego Comic-Con, the film began life as “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty”, focusing on time-traveling villain Kang, played by Jonathan Majors. This was all hunky-dory until Majors fell foul of the law and was booted from the Marvel universe faster than you can say “my spider-senses are tingling”. The Kang Dynasty subtitle vanished quicker than a man wearing an invisibility cloak, and it seemed our film was doomed to live the rest of its days as the unassuming “Avengers 5”.

A Director’s Chair Hotter than the Thanos Snap

If the film’s title saga weren’t dramatic enough, the director’s chair for the fifth Avengers installment has seen more turnover than an episode of Kitchen Nightmares. Destin Daniel Cretton of the famous “Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings” was originally slated to take the helm for Avengers 5 but eventually bowed out, making way for Joe and Anthony Russo to return to the director’s chairs.

Whose Turn Is It to Be a Hero This Time?

You may be wondering who’s left to wear the capes and swing the hammers this time around, given that most of the original Avengers either died or retired in Avengers: Endgame (no spoilers). There’s plenty of casting speculation swirling like a cyclone, from Anthony Mackie’s Captain America to Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, and even potential appearances from Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. But don’t worry – Marvel isn’t one to let the cat out of the bag too early.

Here’s the Fantastic News

If Avengers: Endgame felt like a high school reunion, Avengers: Doomsday is shaping up to be more like a university commencement ceremony where everyone and their mother shows up. Marvel has confirmed that the new Fantastic Four are set to make an appearance in the upcoming Avengers films.

The Future of Avengers

Avengers fans, your date with Doomsday is locked for May 1, 2026, so gear up for a riotous superhero time. Following hot on its heels will be the sixth Avengers installment, “Avengers: Secret Wars”, set to hit theaters on May 7, 2027. Clear your calendars, folks – the Marvel-verse has twisted once again, and the ripple effects promise to be seismic.
