Grant Gustin Reflects on The Flash Role
By August Tales
A Reflective Flashback
Grant Gustin, the face behind Barry Allen/The Flash of the Arrowverse series, took a melodramic journey down memory lane recently. Celebrating the tenth anniversary of the show’s debut on The CW, Gustin found himself nostalgically entwined with his role that has undeniably transformed his life.
The Flash hit the small screen with a blitz, premiering on The CW on October 7, 2014. It received a sweeping wave of approval and maintained impressively high viewership numbers. Despite changes over the past decade, with only Superman & Lois currently keeping DC’s presence alive on The CW, Gustin remains appreciative. For almost a decade, he embodied The Scarlet Speedster wholeheartedly.
An Undeniable Connection
Via an Instagram story, Gustin unveiled a heartfelt message to his fans. The actor posted a fan art by renowned artist BossLogic, along with an emotionally charged caption. “10 years since the first Flash episode aired. Wild,” he marvels. “Changed my life and forever connected me to a character that now means so much to me.” He then warmly thanks fans who have extended support and love over the last decade.
Setting A Speedy Record
Gustin’s Barry Allen first graced our screens in a two-part episode of Arrow, The CW’s take on the Green Arrow legend. After positive reception, The CW gave the green light for The Flash pilot. The series took off with immense success, though sagging ratings and critique began to cloud its appeal in later seasons.
The Flash’s heroic journey eventually concluded in May 2023, following nine seasons and 184 episodes. Undeniably, The Flash had a long run, becoming the longest-running Arrowverse series.
A Future in Limbo
With Arrowverse out of the picture and The Flash’s cinematic attempt falling short of expectations, no current projects are known to be cooking in DC Studios featuring The Scarlet Speedster. The character was glaringly missing from the initial DC Universe lineup of films and series announced by James Gunn and Peter Safran in January 2023. Consequently, while The Flash maintains popularity, his re-emergence in the DC Universe remains a mystery.
In the meantime, all nine seasons of The Flash retain their zooming appeal, comfortably streaming on Netflix for ardent fans and future converts alike.
