“IDW to Release Artist’s Editions of Batman Year One, Neal Adams’ DC Classics in 2024”

SAN DIEGO, CA, May 30th, 2023. Pencil in your 2024 calendar, comic book aficionados. IDW Publishing radios in a lucrative headline – Manga giant DC green lit the production of Artist’s Editions spotlighting the masterstrokes of comic book supremos, David Mazzucchelli and Neal Adams. Fetch your capes and keep watch – DAVID MAZZUCCHELLI’S BATMAN: YEAR ONE ARTIST’S EDITION and NEAL ADAMS’ DC CLASSICS ARTIST’S EDITION are prepping to swoop down mid-2024. Expect more celestial surprises on the roster for unveiling in the months ahead.

“Spilling the heart and soul of DC’s rich history onto pages is an endeavor close to my heart,” proclaims Artist’s Editions editor Scott Dunbier. “The forthcoming volumes, along with the unannounced spectacles, will serve up some of the most exquisite art in the comic sphere.”

David Mazzucchelli’s Batman: Year One, under the supervision penmanship of renowned Frank Miller, finds its place among the coveted ranks of Batman storylines. Mazzucchelli, a man of few words leaving his art to do all the talking, puts forth “You were never meant to see this,” in the most cryptic fashion. Dunbier interjects, “David’s intimate involvement in the project not only involves meticulous planning but also a hands-on approach with scanning all the content. Expect exclusive coverage on the layouts on top of the cover and interior pieces.” Ace designer Chip Kidd decks out the visuals for this masterpiece.

Neal Adams’ DC Classics Artist’s Edition parades a top-shelf buffet of Neal Adams art, dating circa late 1960s to the mid-1970s – arguably, Adams’ prime days. The compendium will encompass five signature stories, accompanied by a spread of covers and pages from Adams’ portfolio. The book garners two covers; Green Lantern/Green Arrow #76, a gem from Denny O’Neil and Adams, and Batman #232, marking the debut appearance of Ra’s al Ghul. Having an Artist’s Edition finally in the pipeline brings much joy to the Adams family, according to Kristine Adams-Stone, a sentiment echoed by the fans who have fervently petitioned for the same.

IDW’s Artist’s Editions have made a stellar reputation for themselves as the bar-setters for high-end comic art collectibles. Each substantial hardcover delivers an unparalleled experience of original comic art, boasting high-resolution scans of storyboard artwork from figures such as Todd McFarlane, Jim Lee, John Buscema, Dave Stevens, etc. Every page mirrors the distinctive creative idiosyncrasies that make each piece of art a stand-alone marvel, retaining the original size and using paper nearly indistinguishable from the original art board.
