IDW Publishing announces exciting variant cover program from Cliff Chiang

“Epic Fantasy Series ‘The Hunger and The Dusk’ to Debut in July”

Scribing down the notable news from the fantasy realm of comics, we take a vicarious voyage into “THE HUNGER AND THE DUSK”. Unraveling last month, this heartfelt brainchild of G. Willow Wilson, known for her brush with ‘Ms. Marvel’, ‘Wonder Woman’ and ‘Poison Ivy’, and the aesthetic crafting of Chris Wildgoose, the artistic mind behind ‘Batgirl: Rebirth’ and ‘Batman: Nightwalker’, the fresh fantasy promises to be a melange of spell-binding drama to tear at your heartstrings, whirlwind romances to set pulses racing, and visceral carnage to sate the hunger of genre enthusiasts.

Now, our friends at IDW have let loose a riveting reveal that takes the proverbial cake (or should we say, comic cover?). Each “THE HUNGER AND THE DUSK” issue will have a Cover B variant illustrated by Cliff Chiang, the artistic maestro behind titles like ‘Wonder Woman’ and ‘Paper Girls’. This implies a series of twelve collectible Chiang-art covers, with special ‘Gold’ variants available in select ratios for each issue.

“THE HUNGER AND THE DUSK is not your run-of-the-mill comic book. It is a bold statement, a heroic attempt at fusing bustling fantasy with eloquent profundity as humans and orcs grapple with a decaying world,” Chiang commented on the distinctive series. “This is essentially classic sword and sorcery with a contemporary gaze. I wanted to harness these especial qualities into a fetching and memorable design. Crafting these covers has been utterly exhilarating, it is in its own right an homage to the brilliance of the narratives.”

Series artist Chris Wildgoose couldn’t restrain his excitement over Chiang’s participation. He recalls, “From the get-go, we pondered who to invite as variant cover artists for ‘THE HUNGER AND THE DUSK’. Everyone unanimously voted for Cliff Chiang! He’s an inspiration to me on numerous levels, so to learn that he’s joining the orc-tinged bandwagon for an entire series…it was a surreal moment that made my heart flutter. It’s a privilege having him onboard. I’m definitely going to get his collection of artwork printed and posted up on my studio wall, that’s for sure!”

Moreover, each issue of ‘THE HUNGER AND THE DUSK’ will unfurl with multiple covers for fans and retailers to delight in. Cover A boasts Wildgoose, while Cover C will feature rotating contributors each month. InHyuk Lee (‘Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers’, ‘The Flash’), Nick Robles (‘The Dreaming: Waking Hours’), and Jessica Fong (‘Poison Ivy’) have been roped in for the first three issues, respectively.

Don’t hit snooze on this blockbuster-in-the-making. Based on the current hum in comic circles, it’s poised to be one of the most exciting releases of the summer.
