Inside L.A. Comic Con 2024: Panels, Cosplays, and More
By August Tales
Last weekend, the L.A. Convention Center buzzed with excitement. The annual Los Angeles Comic Con took center stage, offering fans three days packed with creativity and fandom. As an exhibitor for LEGO BrickLink, I viewed the event from a unique angle. Transitioning from attendee to participant reshaped my experience, although the panels and cosplay remained the convention’s undeniable highlights.
A Star Wars Dominated Affair
Compared to last year, 2024’s L.A. Comic Con felt more intimate. The focus shifted toward Star Wars, with major panels attracting significant attention. Fans gathered to hear Rosario Dawson and Ewan McGregor, who teased the potential return of Obi-Wan Kenobi in a second season. Disney hasn’t confirmed it yet, but anticipation rippled through the crowd.
Additionally, Friday’s Main Stage featured live music, while Saturday held a captivating cosplay contest. Among several memorable costumes, a couple dressed as Xenomorphs in quirky human outfits sparkled with creativity. Despite their limited vision, the alien duo charmed attendees with their extraterrestrial antics.
Universal Studios Hollywood made a strong impression with their booth. They showcased theme park experiences and displayed the iconic Back to the Future car for photos. Though I missed the photo ops and chance for autographs, I snagged a rare 2006 LEGO Batman set from a vendor. Next year, I’ll prioritize meeting stars like Ming-Na Wen and Kristen Schaal.
The Mandalorian: A Must-See Panel
While many panels didn’t catch my interest, the one for “The Mandalorian” was unmissable. Featuring Giancarlo Esposito and Ming-Na Wen, the discussion covered both their work and personal lives. Each actor shared about charities they’re passionate about, and Paul Sun-Hyung Lee entertained with stories of his vast action-figure collection. Esposito almost confirmed Moff Gideon’s possible return, adding a thrill to the conversation.
Emily Swallow, discussed her character, The Armorer, and the depth of her role. Meanwhile, Lee shared his experience with directors like Jon Favreau, who trusts actors deeply. Bryce Dallas Howard gained praise for her nurturing directing style. The panel offered insights and humor, making it a highlight of the convention.
Looking to the Future: L.A. Comic Con 2025
Los Angeles Comic Con plans a return for September 2025. Reflecting on the experiences of previous years, I hope for an event that balances chaotic excitement with relaxed interaction. Incorporating more Marvel and DC personalities would diversify the star power, steering away from the Star Wars focus. For more updates, visit the LACC official website.
