Article by August Tales

As October creeps in, Joe Bob Briggs breathes life into two thrilling drive-in specials. What to Anticipate from the Upcoming Specials

Fear might be knotting your stomach for the next season of “The Last Drive-In” on Shudder. However, take heart, horror-enthusiasts. Joe Bob Briggs hijacks the waiting room to deliver double specials in the coming weeks. Shudder and AMC have joined forces to release these episodes – one heading to linear cable with a visit from a slasher icon.

The month of October will give birth to two specials of “The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs.” The first airs as part of AMC’s annual Fearfest marathon. Scheduled for Wednesday, October 9th, the first special delves into the Friday the 13th franchise. Briggs unfurls a double feature with 1980’s Friday the 13th and its 1981 sequel, Friday the 13th Part 2. The second special, christened Joe Bob’s Beezlebub Bash, broadcasts live on Shudder and AMC+ on Friday, October 25th. The destined movies remain shrouded in secrecy, due for revelation during the live session.

Special Guest Appearance in the First Special

Aside from being part of the Fearfest line-up, the debut Joe Bob special also beams a spotlight on an iconic guest. Adrienne King, the OG Final Girl of the Friday the 13th franchise, will grace the screen. Revered for her fierce portrayal of Alice who outmaneuvered Pamela Vorhees, the real killer, she reprises her role before meeting her end at the hands of an adult Jason Vorhees in the sequel.

The first Last Drive-In special featuring the Friday the 13th franchise kicks off at 8pm ET on Wednesday. Segments featuring Briggs, and guest star King, will debut on Shudder and AMC+ for on-demand viewers on October 13th.

Renewal of ‘The Last Drive-In With Joe Bob Briggs’

News of these fresh specials trails the announcement of Shudder and AMC renewing “The Last Drive-In With Joe Bob Briggs” for a sixth season. Briggs himself let the cat out of the bag, a day prior to the six-film “Nightmareathon” towards August’s end.

His social media post captured the anticipation, stating, “We’re going to continue to do deep-dives for another year, with great movies and not-so-great movies and horrible movies. And lots of hijinks and shenanigans. So thank you for supporting us.”

The Nightmareathon awaits on Shudder, along with prior seasons and special editions from The Last Drive-In. Delight in a horror-filled romp as Briggs takes over the screen showcasing his passion for the eerie and the mist-cloaked.
