M. Night Shyamalan Responds to Concerns About…

“M. Night Shyamalan Defends ‘Trap’ Trailer Amid Spoiler Concerns”

Master of suspense and unexpected twists, M. Night Shyamalan has once again left fans scrabbling for clues ahead of the release of his latest thriller, Trap. In classic Shyamalan style, the just-released trailer has already raised questions and sparked theories among fans. The common concern, however, is if the trailer might have given away the film’s central twist prematurely.

Shyamalan, seemingly unbothered by these speculations, recently peeled back the curtain on his thought process. The veteran filmmaker while in conversation with Empire, a tidbit shared by Screen Rant, dismissed the concerns about the trailer’s apparent giveaway.

“The response [to the trailer] was so amazing,” he began, adding coyly, “Who can say? But I did know that that was how I was going to sell it when we were shooting. The story already starts months before you come into the movie theatre.”

He continued, explaining his careful crafting of this narrative, “As a storyteller, I have to be a part of that. I was very careful.”

Trap, featuring genre stalwart Josh Hartnett, offers a chilling tale of an unsuspecting father and daughter attending a pop star’s concert. The trailer suggests that the police are exploiting the same concert to goad a notorious serial killer out of hiding, suspected to be Hartnett’s character. But any attempt to predetermine the plot trajectory with Shyamalan at the helm is, at best, a dicey proposition.

The Indian-American director is known for masterminding some tremendous narrative curveballs. The chances of him laying all his cards on the table this early are about as likely as a sunny day in Gotham. So, our advice? Prepare to be surprised.

Trap is slated to invade theaters across the U.S. on August 2, 2024. It promises an edge-of-your-seat experience guaranteed by Shyamalan’s knack for tension-soaked narratives.

What are your thoughts on the Trap trailer? Did it reveal too much or was it a calculated tease to throw everyone off course? Do share your theories, and remember, it’s all fun and games until someone loses an unexpected twist.
