Written by August Tales

When Disney bought Lucas Film in 2012, Star Wars comics found a new home at Marvel. Jason Aaron and artist John Cassaday launched an ongoing Star Wars series. Predictably, it sold a record-breaking one million copies. Celebrating Star Wars’ 10th anniversary, Marvel has a surprise up its sleeve – Star Wars: A New Legacy, available this January.

Embrace the Legacy

This one-shot gather some of the decade’s most influential Star Wars comic creators. Names like Aaron, Charles Soule, Kieron Gillen shine bright in this constellation. Together, they journey back to the galaxy far, far away to spotlight iconic Star Wars characters first introduced in the pages of a Marvel comic.

Readers, get ready for a full action-packed feature. The Empire’s most commanding figures, from Darth Vader to Grand Moff Tarkin, gather to pay homage to Emperor Palpatine. The stage? None other than Alderaan. This gripping lore comes from Star Wars authority Charles Soule and acclaimed Star Wars artist Ramon Rosanas.

A Galaxy Far, Far Away

At the heart of this imperial event unfolds a daring heist. Notorious Doctor Aphra and Sana Starros plan it, oblivious to Valance hot on their trails. A Sith artifact poses a trouble that can ruin the party for everyone. It’s a collision course of Marvel’s original characters from fan favorites to obscurities.

The Path to Darkness

Whatever happened to the Scar Squadron? Task Force 99, under Sergeant Kreel’s leadership, would report directly to Darth Vader. They were among the most lethal threats to Luke, Leia, and the Rebellion during Jason Aaron’s imperative run. In this issue, Aaron revisits these hardened stormtroopers along with fellow Star Wars superstar Leonard Kirk.

Kieron Gillen returns to the dark side. Crafting a tale set during his acclaimed run of Darth Vader, he brings back the breakout star Doctor Aphra. Aphra and Vader’s complex relationship takes center stage again, accompanied by a dangerous game unleashed by Aphra’s old crew.

A Decade of Marvel and Star Wars

“This is a cornerstone we’ve been anticipating, celebrating a decade of the re-union of Marvel Comics and Star Wars!” Editor Mark Paniccia stated. With influential Star Wars comic writers and stunning artwork, the one-shot promises to be a treat for fans. “It’s rewarding to spotlight as many of the Marvel-created characters as possible. Both longtime and new fans will get a thrill with this!” he continued.
