Marvel’s Anthony Mackie believes he only…

Anthony Mackie’s Bold Yet Finite Journey as Captain America Begins

Anthony Mackie, the star of Captain America: Brave New World, is back and ready for action. However, according to Mackie, he intends to wield the iconic shield for only another decade.

In a candid chat with Screen Rant, Mackie shared his thoughts on continuing as Sam Wilson, the shield-bearing hero. "The 10 years start on the 14th," he said. "After the 14th, I’ve got a 10-year run. I’m not aiming to be a 60-year-old Captain America. That would hurt."

Committed to Carrying the Shield

At 46, Mackie officially became the Captain in Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s finale. After being handed the shield by Steve Rogers in Avengers: Endgame, he was unsure of his path. He even joked about Sam not surviving Marvel’s expansive comic book universe.

This new film sees Sam Wilson unravel a conspiracy involving a war hero and Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross (played by Harrison Ford), the newly appointed president. The film presents more challenges, as Giancarlo Esposito enters the scene as Sidewinder, and Tim Blake Nelson reprises his role as Samuel Sterns, aka The Leader. Marvel fans last saw The Leader in The Incredible Hulk back in 2008.

Bringing Cap’s Action to the Big Screen

Despite an extensive list of challenges, Mackie remains enthusiastic about Captain America’s big-screen adventures. "There’s something about Captain America that people love—the attitude, the realness, the groundedness," Mackie explains. "It just works in a cinematic sense, and Captain America belongs on the big screen because that’s where people want to see him."

Fans eagerly await Captain America: Brave New World’s release in theaters on February 14. Keep an eye out for every other MCU chapter by checking our guide to upcoming Marvel movies and TV shows.
