Rumors Debunked: Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse Production Not Scrapped
By August Tales
Fans were overjoyed when “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” swung into theaters in 2023. Quickly after this, they were promised a sequel the following year. Unfortunately, that didn’t pan out. Sony pulled “Beyond the Spider-Verse” from its 2024 lineup, indefinitely shelving it. Subsequently, shrouded whispers started circulating that Sony had scrapped the third chapter in its entirety. Even more alarming was the potential delay that pegged the film’s release to 2027, four years after its precedent which left fans dangling on a cliffhanger. However, rumors can be misleading, and in this case, two key personnel have stepped forward to set the record straight.
Discrepancies Between Rumors and Facts
“Nothing has been scrapped. The reels are coming along nicely.” The reassuring words of none other than the film’s co-writer and producer, Chris Miller. His statements debunk the disquieting rumors of a complete project overhaul. But he’s not alone. Composer Daniel Pemberton chimed in with an equally subtle jab at the speculation. “Don’t really ever want to weigh in on this sort of stuff, BUT would you ever believe there could sometimes be stuff on the internet that might not always be particularly accurate? Hmmmm…”, said Pemberton.
The State of “Beyond the Spider-Verse”
Despite these affirmations, “Beyond the Spider-Verse” remains unscheduled. The film hasn’t been scrapped, but that doesn’t mean changes aren’t brewing. After “Across the Spider-Verse” exceeded box office expectations and echoed the critical acclaim of “Into the Spider-Verse”, the pressure to deliver is palpable. The anticipated release date could be as far as 2026. An uncanny coincidence if “the MCU’s Multiverse Saga” and Sony Animation’s “Spider-Verse” saga wrap within months of each other. We’re left hanging, eagerly awaiting Sony Animation’s official word on when Spider-Man: “Beyond the Spider-Verse” will return to the silver screen.
