Absolute Power: An Obscure Powerful Artifact in the DC Universe
By August Tales
The DC Universe, with its expansive mythos, houses many hidden and formidable elements. One of the most enigmatic and potent artifacts lands in the grasp of the iron-willed Amanda Waller. Absolute Power: Task Force VII #6 transports readers to the island of Themyscira. Queen Nubia and her Amazonian contingent quickly find themselves ensnared in Waller’s battle against Earth’s valiant defenders.
Regrettably, the fiercest warriors of Themyscira cannot halt the relentless Amazo android, Paradise Lost. It isn’t hunting any individual, but rather a specific spot on the island. One that holds the potential to tip the balance in Waller’s ongoing crusade against the Justice League: The Well of Souls.
Introducing Task Force VII #6
Penned by Stephanie Williams and rendered visually by Khary Randolph – their collective brilliance shines in Task Force VII #6. Colored by Alex Guimarães and lettered by Dave Sharpe, this installment stitches a captivating narrative. The main cover art by Pete Woods and variant covers by Randolph, Guimarães, Leirix, John Timms, and others, complete this masterpiece.
The Well of Souls in DC Mythos
Also known as the Cavern of Souls, this location travels back to Wonder Woman #1 in 1987 by Greg Potter and George Pérez. The Well of Souls is the cradle of the Amazons. It’s the origin of their enduring vitality. When women succumb to violence, their spirits, transmuted into streams of light, find sanctuary in the Well of Souls. Supposedly, the high Olympians denied Artemis’ plea to give these spirits a second chance on Earth. Undeterred, Artemis embarked down the River Styx to animate the spirits anyway.
Waller’s Undying Ambition in Absolute Power
The Well of Souls becomes Waller’s latest claim in DC’s Absolute Power. Waller, consolidating artifacts like the Helmet of Hate and Nightmare Stone, covertly replaced Titans’ Raven with the malevolent Dark Raven. Her alliances also include formidable villains like Failsafe to fund her army – Task Force VII.
The Remaining Heroes’ Resistance
Fortunately, the remaining paragons of the DC Universe have made significant headways in combatting Waller and her army. Even after the stripping of their powers, they unite with their notorious adversaries to secure the world. Superman, for instance, negotiated a pact with demon Neron. His aim? To secure another pivotal magical element that could overturn DC’s Absolute Power story arch.
We get a glimpse of this captivating duel in Absolute Power: Task Force VII #6, now on sale from DC Comics.
For nearly eight decades, Wonder Woman, one of the most beloved and symbolic DC Super Heroes, remains a beacon of truth, justice, and equality.
