Regarding Dungeons

“NBM Shifts Focus, Ends Dungeon Series Publication”

The publishing company NBM has made the executive decision to curb the publication of once loved genres; science fiction, horror, or crime. They have instead decided to cozy up to the warmth of adult literary fiction from esteemed authors such as Davodeau and Mikael, along with non-fiction, where their series on Rock Bands in Comics and brilliant ventures like The Art of Sushi and the anticipated Proxy Mom commands the spotlight.

Muscling through the dense fog of genres, only two series stood with their humorous heads held high: Zombillenium and Dungeon. The former hit its end last fall with the publication of volumes five and six, whilst the latter, Dungeon, is facing a rather inconclusive and abrupt fate.

Expressing heartfelt gratitude, Terry Nantier addressed the ardent, if not numerically heartening, fan base. The plight of this series lies in the bitter fact that though it gathered significant appreciation, it lacked the substantial power to perpetuate its existence, especially when it staggered off the path of NBM’s sharpened publishing trajectory.

Bowing out in close conjunction with the release of Dungeon Zenith volume 5, last autumn, the subsequent relaunch couldn’t gather enough steam to achieve a truly formidable stature, despite the roars of approval from its core fan base. This leaves Nantier in the unenviable position of having to announce its discontinuation.

In an era where there is a veritable torrent of graphic novels being published yearly and multiple publishers clamoring for a slice of the success pie, NBM finds it imperative to stick to their guns, focusing on what they toast as their bestselling arena, albeit paving the way for some thorny resolutions.

Nantier’s fondness for the series is palpable, drawing parallels between the incredible script collaboration between Lewis Trondheim and Joann Sfar to a jazz jam session where inspiration and ideas freely bounce off each other. Sincere hope was expressed for Dungeon to find a new home, reaching out to a more extensive audience, and preventing it from fading away into oblivion.

For the moment, previously published editions will still feature in NBM’s catalog, serving as a touching tribute to the joy, laughter, and creativity the Dungeon series brought to its readers. As Nantier certifies, “This is a decision that certainly didn’t come easy.”.
