Youngblood Comic Returns with Creator Rob Liefeld
By August Tales
Image Comics has shocked fans with news of an upcoming Youngblood revival. Set for an April 2025 release, mastermind Rob Liefeld is back in control. This celebrated Youngblood series holds a sales record of over 25 million copies. Its history also boasts over 100 issues. Comic geniuses like Robert Kirkman, Alan Moore, and Mark Millar have all contributed to its storyline.
Liefeld, who embraces his creations with unwavering enthusiasm, said, “These characters carry history. They launched a movement. Youngblood is my absolute passion.”
A Groundbreaking Partnership
Those fondly remembered characters are also managed by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg. In April 1992, alongside Liefeld, Rosenberg brought Image Comics to birth. He now heads Platinum Studios Inc., overseeing the Youngblood universe for its owner, Rip Media Inc. Together, the duo plans new Youngblood ventures, starting with a brand-new title. A title—remarkably, wholly—conceived by Liefeld himself.
Rosenberg fondly recalls their past successes. “Rob and I are a fantastic team. As excited as I was for Youngblood’s launch in 1992, the anticipation for the relaunch is electric,” he said. Their memorable creations appeared in over 100 million comic editions globally, with intriguing crossovers with Marvel and other Image comics. Rosenberg is eager to reintroduce these iconic characters to both original and new-age audiences, under the stewardship of their original creator.
Returning Home
The return of Youngblood marks a full circle for Image Comics. The publisher and Chief Creative Officer, Eric Stephenson, acknowledges just how symbolic this revival is. For him, Rob’s original vision was the gravitational force that pulled him towards Image Comics in the 90s.
“It’s a wave of pure excitement. The series that kick-started it all is finally back home!” Stephenson said.
Fans eagerly anticipate the revival — a shout-out to a generation that witnessed Youngblood’s original launch. This time, they’re joined by a new cohort of comic lovers. Together, they’ll dive back into the world of Youngblood, where their favorite characters are born anew. And so, the legacy continues.
