Alien: Romulus Follow-Up Gains Traction
A sequel to Alien: Romulus, the adrenaline-fueled sci-fi horror, is officially in the works. The announcement came just months after its successful release. Fede Alvarez, not initially attached, has now jumped on board to possibly guide the next chapter. He recently shed light on how progress is shaping up, and, of course, what it means for thrilling fans once again.
Alvarez told io9, "We definitely want to do it. The studio is excited, and I am too." However, this doesn’t mean rushing anything out the door. Before rolling the cameras, Alvarez insists a great script must lead the way. "With sequels, the right story is crucial," he explained. Together with co-writer Rodo Sayagues, they’re toying with ideas. Yet, Alvarez warns they won’t proceed without a narrative that screams for screen time.
Chasing the Perfect Plot
"We’re seeking a story worthy of the title," Alvarez continued, highlighting the hunt for a killer concept. The director holds a firm stance: success follows substance. Simply cashing in on a hit isn’t enough, he cautions. "Avoid the mistake of making [a sequel] just because you can," he adds, pointing to the potential pitfalls of half-baked follow-ups. The process is rigorous, designed to ensure authenticity prevails.
With tensions high and expectations towering, fans are buzzing. After all, Alien: Romulus delivered an explosive mix of nostalgia and nail-biting excitement. It revisited the franchise’s riveting essence set between 1979’s Alien and 1986’s Aliens. This fresh take saw space colonizers encounter their worst nightmares. Haunted by an infamous extraterrestrial threat, they scavenge through dark, abandoned corridors. Adding more grit to this spine-chilling escapade, the film starred Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, and a cohort of stellar talents.
A Sequel in the Making
October marked a decisive moment. 20th Century Studios President Steve Asbell confirmed that sequel discussions were underway. "We’re working on an idea for the sequel," he told fans. Talks with Fede haven’t finalized just yet, but the enthusiasm is palpable. Alvarez already has a plot concept in mind, hinting at what’s next for the saga.
Asbell dropped hints too, adding, "The two survivors, Rain and Andy, were film highlights." Played by Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson, these characters stole the hearts of many. Asbell mused, "Where do fans want to see them next?" With more aliens and terrifying adventures, it’s bound to be a wild ride. Asbell affirmed his excitement in seeing how their stories unfold amid captivating horror set pieces.
For fans eager to relive the saga, Alien: Romulus hits home video on December 3. Formats include 4K UHD, Blu-ray, DVD, and nostalgia-laden VHS. As for the sequel, no release date has been set, but anticipation builds.
Stay tuned, space travelers. The next chapter of Alien thrills might be just around the corner.
