Rumored X-Men Villain Role for Dwayne Johnson…

For the uninitiated, ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is the Hinge that will swing open the door to the Mutant Era in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And boy, are we in for a treat. Apparently, it’s not enough that Deadpool and Wolverine are injecting themselves into MCU’s cinema veins; they’re ushering in what MCU mastermind Feige calls “the mutant era.” Not too shabby, right?

Part of this new age involves the long-anticipated X-Men live-action reboot. However, a superhero movie is only as good as its antagonist. While it’s still a guessing game as to who the nefarious figure may be, the rumor mill has churned out an intriguing scenario where our clawed hero Wolverine gets a taste of the dark side.

Linking ‘The Rock’ with the Mutants

A few moons ago, the superhero-sphere was rocked by unconfirmed reports that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, famed for his Herculean strength and equally mythical eyebrow, was being courted for an MCU gig. This started up about the same time his outfit, Seven Bucks Productions, made nice with Disney. Hence, the lump of excitement that’s rock-hard with the thought of Johnson playing a prominent role in the mutant’s reboot.

Speculators have taken a wild guess that Johnson might dress up as Apocalypse, one of X-Men’s most bone-chillingly chilling bad guys. Ah, sweet conjecture, thy name is internet speculation.

Why Wolverine Could Become the Horseman of Death

And how, pray tell, does this concern Wolverine? Well, buckle up, because we’re taking a ride down memory lane to ‘X-Men ’97,’ Season 1. After his adamantium skeleton was yanked cruelly by Magneto, Wolverine found himself in a pickle. His healing power flickered without the metal, revealing not more than bone claws and a primal form that Freud himself would have a field day with. This deprived state sent the poor fellow spiraling towards a mental breakdown.

Apocalypse, being the opportunistic fiend he is, presented Wolverine the chance to restore his adamantium skeleton. However, this restoral didn’t come free of strings. In ‘The Twelve’ storyline, Apocalypse, trying to make Wolverine his Horseman of Death, restores the metal. Wolverine, realizing that Sabretooth as Death would translate to Miseryville for all, battles him for the dreaded position, and ultimately, gets his adamantium back.

Emulating this dramatic storyline within the MCU would make for gripping, edge-of-seat entertainment, just how we like our superhero movies. But what do you think, folks?
