First Look at Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #122

“Sneak Peek at Climactic Power Rangers Issue #122!”

It’s official! At last, we’ve been bestowed with the first glimpse of the second-to-last installment in the awe-inspiring saga of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Tantalize your palette for high-adventure as we pour over “MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #122”, the near[dry humor] conclusion of the “DARKEST HOUR” event, eagerly ushering in the grand finale of a 12-month climactic event that’s surely throttled fans right on the edge of their nostalgia-laden seats. Now, mark your calendars, reserve your sick leaves, because come July 2024, it’s go time!

Supported and licensed by the board game megalopolis, Hasbro, Inc. (whose shares, by the way, are tantalizing the NASDAQ with their ticker – NASDAQ: HAS), we’re thrown into a spell-binding narrative on this one. Penned by wordsmith Melissa Flores (a previous dabbler in Power Rangers and The Dead Lucky) with letters artfully arranged by the ever-busy Ed Dukeshire (known for his work in The Woods, Irredeemable), the storyline will leave you desperately wishing for the ability to time travel to the holistically anticipated “Reunited, Recharged” era of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

Well, wipe your skates. Simona Di Gianfelice takes the pencil and ink, once again, as the series artist for this second last chapter of Darkest Hour, unveiling the aftermath of Billy’s disastrous actions – successfully sending a crack through his fellow Rangers’ trust like lightning on a particularly stormy night.

Only to thicken the plot further, Dark Specter has a nasty surprise up his sleeve. As eyes widen and hearts pound, the Ranger Slayer realizes salvation comes, in this case, personalised with the help of an old ally. As they gear up to counteract the impending doom, the shocking cliffhanger leading up to the last stand – Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Darkest Hour #1 – promises to be a gasper.

This colossal offering to the Power Ranger gods is adroitly wrapped in main cover art by the stellar artist, Taurin Clarke (famed for Miles Morales: Spider-Man), with variant covers adorned by illustrious illustrators including Björn Barends (Spawn), Goñi Montes (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers), Rafael Sarmento (I am Batman), Martin Simmonds (The Many Deaths of Laila Starr), and Mateus Manhanini (Briar), who’s set to introduce an exclusive BOOM! Studios Direct Reserve variant.

Celebrating three whopping decades of concealed identities and colorful costumes, the Power Rangers continue to defy odds. With a staggering 900 episodes and counting, the franchise has etched its place in the annals of long-standing live-action kids’ TV series. Beyond the small screen, it’s also leaping onto the 21st century’s favourite binge-platform, Netflix. Emphasis on remembering and reliving, they introduce ‘Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always’, the nostalgia-draped anniversary special that’s lined up for streaming. Riding the waves of festivities, the 30th season of Power Rangers, titled “Power Rangers: Cosmic Fury,” is currently painting Netflix red(and black, and blue, and yellow, and pink and green).

Continuing with the BOOM! Studios’ onslaught of gripping narratives, the MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS is the newest cannonball into their pool of critically acclaimed original series dwelling under their impressive imprint. It holds its place amongst other high-profile stories including the Grim, R.L. Stine’s Stuff of Nightmares, and many more stories from a diverse range of established writers and artists.

Whether its collectors looking for their next precious addition, or old fans itching to scratch their nostalgia, or new enthusiasts seeking pulse-pounding adventure – MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #122 is set to hit the shelves on July 24, 2023. Available in print at neighbourhood comic book shops or BOOM! Studios webstore, and for the digital hawks, it’s accessible via iBooks, Google Play, and Kindle.

Now, the only question left is ‘which variant to go for?’. Whichever you chose, just remember, it’s morphin time!
