Alan Tudyk’s Secret Role in Gunn’s Superman Revealed?
By: August Tales
It’s been recently discovered that stalwart actor Alan Tudyk has an undisclosed role in James Gunn’s impending Superman movie. Tudyk’s involvement was never officially confirmed. However, the actor is known for voicing Doctor Phosphorus in Gunn’s DCU Creature Commandos series. Gunn carries a tradition, with actors voicing characters in Creature Commandos often reprising these roles for live-action versions. Frank Grillo, voicing Rick Flag Sr. in Creature Commandos, is set to follow this trend in the upcoming Superman movie.
However, sources hint that Tudyk might be stepping into a different role for the Superman movie. It stands to reason that he might not reprise his voice-acting role of Doctor Phosphorus.
Suspicions Surrounding the Secret Role
Gunn’s new Superman epic has been buzzing with rumors pointing towards Brainiac as the film’s villain. The film introduces David Corenswet as the new Man of Steel, along with Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. However, Gunn himself has remained tight-lipped about whether Brainiac, a significant antagonist in the Superman universe, will be gracing the silver screen.
Tudyk has showcased his versatility over time, also lending his voice to Clayface in the unaffiliated Max animated series, Harley Quinn. Tudyk has also had a history with Gunn, appearing in an episode of Tudyk’s Vimeo series, Con Man, from 2015-2017.
There’s speculation that the news of Tudyk’s involvement leaked because of his post-production voice-over work, possibly for Brainiac.
Predictions and Premieres
Of course, we must remember that Tudyk could be reprising Doctor Phosphorus or another character entirely. Sean Gunn is a prime example of an actor playing multiple roles in the DC universe, playing Weasel and GI Robot in Creature Commandos and now preparing for the part of Maxwell Lord in the live-action Superman.
Fans won’t have to wait long to see these actors in action, as Creature Commandos will hit theaters in December. Meanwhile, Gunn has announced that he will be attending the New York Comic-Con next month with the cast.
The Superman film will swoop into theaters on July 11, 2025. Rachel Brosnahan has been cast as Lois Lane, alongside an extensively talented ensemble including Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen and Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher. With so much talent and mystery surrounding this upcoming film, it remains a highly-anticipated addition to the superhero genre.
