Announcing New Series: BRONZE FACES!

BRONZE FACES: A Bold Heist on Cultural Theft

A Tale from the Heart of Nigerian Mythology

Prepare for a groundbreaking narrative as celebrated authors Shobo and Shof, known for "New Masters," delve deep into their Nigerian roots. Paired with the Eisner-winning illustrator Alexandre Tefenkgi, known for his work on "The Good Asian," they bring you BRONZE FACES in 2025 through BOOM! Studios. This story will whisk you away on a thrilling ride through mythology, history, and the chilling echoes of colonialism.

In Soho, London, estranged friends Timi, Sango, and Gbonka find themselves reunited. On the eve when the British Museum prepares to unveil Timi’s father’s work as a prized acquisition, this trio sees blatant cultural theft. With drinks and shared fury igniting their spirits, they craft a bold plan. This scheme isn’t just about a stolen piece of art; it’s about reclaiming dignity.

The discovery of "The Register," a record of countless colonial-era stolen artifacts, fuels their mission. Soon, the gaze shifts to the legendary Benin Bronzes—nearly 1,500 pieces tucked away at the British Museum.

Crafting a New Narrative

"Bronze Faces is our response to reclaiming heritage against all odds," says series co-creator Shobo. The narrative mixes heist, homecoming, and mythology, promising readers a whirlwind journey. Meanwhile, Shof humorously envisions escaping a museum while grooving to Afrobeat, adorned in cultural pride.

Alexandre Tefenkgi highlights the unique collaborative process behind Bronze Faces, likening it to creating an animated feature. The project demands intense dedication and creativity, rendering Tefenkgi’s winter filled with rigorous artistic challenges.

The debut issue, BRONZE FACES #1, showcases main cover art by Shof, alongside variant covers by noted illustrators Alexandre Tefenkgi, Dan Mora—famous for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers—and Tula Lotay of Somna fame.
