Batman: Final Chapter of Long Halloween

New Sequel to Batman: The Long Halloween Released

By August Tales

As one of the most respected narratives in Batman’s universe, “Batman: The Long Halloween” continues to inspire. Not only does it inspire animated films, but it also heavily influences live-action movie storylines. Enter the new sequel series, “Batman: The Long Halloween: The Last Halloween”. This addition ferries us deeper into the riveting world of the original miniseries.

Crafted by Jeph Loeb and visually elevated with the art from Eduardo Risso and Dave Stewart, “The Last Halloween #1” kicks off on a Halloween night. It’s Batman as the narrator, reflecting on the eerie transformation this holiday has undergone in Gotham City. With the looming presence of Two-Face on the loose, Jim Gordon and his wife continue the tradition of taking their son trick-or-treating.

Building Legacy Successfully with The Last Halloween #1

Rewinding to 1996, “The Long Halloween” was a follow-up to three Halloween specials by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale, under the banner of “Legends of the Dark Knight”. Despite being overshadowed by “The Long Halloween”, these specials positively contributed to Batman’s extensive lore. Jeph Loeb’s script cleverly stitched into Batman’s timeline established by “Batman: Year One”, offering a unique perspective on Harvey Dent’s transformation into Two-Face. With Tim Sale’s evocative art adding to the intrigue, “The Long Halloween” garnered enough success to justify two sequels — “Dark Victory” and “Catwoman: When In Rome”.

Tim Sale sadly passed away in 2022. His final collaboration with Loeb was another Halloween special, setting up “The Last Halloween”. Loeb penned this sequel as a heartfelt tribute to Sale. In terms of artwork, Eduardo Risso’s style closely mirrors Sale’s, keeping the original series’ unique aesthetic alive.

“Batman: The Long Halloween: The Last Halloween #1” is set to hit comic shops around the globe on September 25, 2024. Keep your eyes open for this next chapter of Batman’s spine-chilling Halloween saga.
