Diamond Select Busts and Statue Unveiled at SDCC 2024

“Rebel Moon Action Figures Discontinued!”

Much Ado About Scrapped Rebel Moon Action Figures and New Statue Reveals

It’s a classic tale of heartbreak and joy, intermingled like a martini cocktail — sans the olive. Heartfelt sympathies go out to the Zack Snyder worshippers, as Diamond Select quietly draws the curtain on the Rebel Moon action figures. The pulse of their adoration might not beat quite so fervently after this unceremonious decision. It appears that actor approvals have proved to be trickier than maneuvering through an asteroid field in Star Wars, prompting the calling off of this misadventure.

Yet, as the cosmic pendulum swings, it swings back, bringing with it some good news. Fear not, my dear collectible nerds; Diamond Select has whipped up a new concoction of statues and busts that are set to satiate your craving. And hold onto your space cowboy hats, Star Wars buffs have a reason to rejoice.

The Asajj to Your Sith

Now we have something for the house of Sith — a good likeness of Andy Serkis as Andor’s Kino Loy that is. Bundle that with animated Asajj Ventress and robo-legged Maul, and it’s like having a Sith party minus the evil monologues. However, the Darth Vader on his throne statue could just be the showstopper among Diamond Select’s house of horrors. A grand centrepiece for any collection, indeed.

A Keanu-Esque Plan

Halle Berry’s John Wick character Sofia gets some recognition in the sensational world of figurines. It’s a refreshing departure, focusing on a supporting cast member in a franchise that has traditionally merchandised its heroes like hot cakes. Earlier we mentioned that Keanu must’ve done something nice to stay on Diamond’s good side – yes, there’s a whole lot more of Wick and his dog. And why shouldn’t there be more Neo? We live in a world where more Keanu is always less.

Marvelous Cuteness and Intergalactic Nostalgia

Shifting gears (painfully) from sublime to cute, comes Marvel’s offerings. These include the X-Men Minimates (now featuring a tyke), and Spider-villain minis that make Doc Ock and All Hallow’s Eve seem just a tad too sweet for their own good.

Joining the Star Wars vintage-style toy line are a couple of new entries that weren’t in existence during the ’80s: IG-11 and IG-12. While the arrival of a Grogu version later seems inevitable (since toy companies tend to enjoy amassing wealth), who can rule out a sound chip? Much like how we cannot rule out a Godzilla figure, or a chillingly realistic Dark Leonardo TMNT bust.

That, my friends, rounds up our quick tour through Diamond Select’s realm of collectibles. Here’s to more diverting selections to fill up your precious display cases.
