Hard Times For Henry Cavill: A Dive Into the Actor’s Career Snags
by August Tales
Much beloved actor Henry Cavill can’t seem to catch a break. Despite his popularity and vast fan base, his career has hit several stumbling blocks. Most fans, you’ll remember, adored him as Superman. However, recent developments have left him replaced with David Corenswet. Drew Gunn made that decision. Cavill also got a taste of replacement on the set of The Witcher. Instead of him, producers chose Liam Hemsworth.
Argylle, his latest endeavor, was a major flop. While he hasn’t hit the unemployment line, his career isn’t as dazzling as one might hope.
Cavill Leaves The Witcher and Superman
The Witcher saw Cavill’s exit first. But, fans found solace in the notion he would continue as Superman in the DCU. In fact, the studio urged him to announce his return. Still, in a twist of fate, Cavill lost the Superman role. His replacement? David Corenswet.
The exact reasons for Cavill’s professional setbacks vary. At one point, though, the actor blamed his then-manager Dany Garcia. Garcia, interestingly enough, is also Dwayne Johnson’s wife and manager. After Cavill lost Superman, he dropped Garcia from his team.
Transition In DCU And Black Adam Sneak Peek
As buffs remember, the DCU underwent a massive revamp after James Gunn took the helm. Zack Snyder’s brainchild was on the brink of annihilation, despite a few projects still in the pipeline. One such venture was Black Adam, with Dwayne Johnson as the titular character.
Johnson boasted great success for the film. Nevertheless, the reality of Black Adam was an underwhelming mess. Notably, there were rumors Johnson had his sights set on commandeering DCU. Rumor had it that he wanted control over the franchise’s creative direction while planting Black Adam as a key character in the DCU.
Johnson even dismissed a Shazam! crossover in his determined quest. His efforts resulted in an unexpected Superman cameo, with Cavill donning the cape one last time.
Saying Goodbye to Superman
As the drama with Johnson unfolded, many believed Cavill would return to the DCU. Yet, months later, Cavill announced his departure:
“I have just had a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran,” he said. “It’s sad news, everyone. This news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life. I wish them and all involved with the new universe the best of luck.”
The world was dumbstruck. The Witcher had replaced him already. Everyone had their own take on his departure, but it was clear: the DCU was looking for a fresh start.
Firing Garcia and Moving On
Was Cavill the problem, or was it his association with Johnson? No one can say for certain, but we do know this: Cavill was ultimately let go. He blamed Garcia, stock and barrel, and let her go, too. Whether that move was wise is still up for debate. Cavill has been slowly rebuilding his trajectory while Johnson’s DCU takeover plans have utterly imploded.
