James Gunn Shuts Down DCU Comic Continuity Rumors
James Gunn, the dynamic force behind the DC Universe (DCU), has served up a slice of reality. Recently, he dashed hopes for comics within the DCU continuity. Fans have been left pondering the future.
No DCU Comics Plan on the Horizon
On a buzzing social media platform, Threads, Gunn set the record straight. He clarified there are no plans for DCU-themed comics. A fan’s curious question spurred this revelation. Known as the director of the upcoming "Superman" (2025), Gunn addressed misunderstandings.
Rumors had flown about the "Vigilante and Eagly" comic project. Some had believed it connected to the DCU. Gunn, however, cleared the air. The project, titled "Peacemaker Presents: The Vigilante/Eagly Double Feature!," is not part of DCU, contrary to earlier hints on his social accounts.
"Yeah, that was me. Sorry," he admitted. A fan noticed missing posts on Vigilante and Eagly, and Gunn obliged with an explanation. He confessed to deleting a post and rearranging text on Instagram. While busy with NYCC 2024, someone else had posted the announcement that misled fans.
Exciting Comics, But Not DCU
Both Gunn’s words and deeds assure fans that the comics are exciting. But they are independent of the DCU storyline. Bursting with creativity, the comic series remains engaging. Talented creators are leading the charge. Tim Seeley and Mitch Gerads drive the Vigilante portion. Rex Ogle and Matteo Lolli bring Eagly to life. This compelling five-issue series releases in March 2025.
Fans of "Peacemaker" can look forward to more surprises. The show’s second season, featuring these vibrant characters, is on track for a release next year on Max.
Gunn’s Role and Future Projects
Gunn’s involvement as a story consultant on the double feature stands firm. A fan inquired about the accuracy of this detail, to which Gunn reassured them. He remains committed to the project. However, he admitted that not everything falls neatly into DCU continuity.
Meanwhile, anticipation builds for the next Superman film. Gunn’s upcoming movie is set to hit U.S. theaters on July 11, 2025. Fans are undoubtedly eager to see what unfolds in the DC Universe’s cinematic journey.
